Rephrase....
Hi Vicky, It's very hard for me to do the friends thing. I need some time and space to get my head together. I will speak to you when I am sorted, which hopefully won't be too long. Sorry.
That way, you've made no promises about when you will get back to her if ever and its a little softer.
Good luck.

First of all, Why can't you just be friends no strings attached? That works for most people even when you are thinking of a arelationship, it's good to know each other before you take things further. However if you are finding the friends thing hard then try this:-
Hello Vicky.
Am always true to myself and to be honest am finding it hard to be just friends. I don't wanna rush things and have any regrets in the future. So could we please give each other some space for now. I wanna be sure that when i make a decision,it's what i want and it's best for both of us.
Hope you understand me.

Men you just scared me for a second there; vicky is my name.
Well i think it's ok it's not too harsh, but it soundes as if you have already made up ur mind by saying.
Maybe speak to you in the new year. Why don't you say.
Talk to you in the new year.Sounds a little more like you are just trying to sort things out not, dumping her in a nice way.

I think it sounds alright. It gets straight to the point. Everyone needs their own space from time to time especially if this girl is your ex and you parted on good terms and decided to be friends. This girl should appreciate that you need space. If she was a real friend she would understand this.
Hope things work out
Take care

if she broke up with you and wants to be "friends" perhaps this would be more apt:
Vicky, we had a great time but as you feel you no longer wish to be with me and i totally respect that, perhaps you could show respect for me in the same manner when i tell you i no longer want any more contact with you whatsoever.
take care of yourself
Harry.
if you asked her out and she wants to be just friends, then ignore her and break all contact with her. don't dwell on the past start with a clean slate, just be firm and polite and if needs be change your email and sim card.

maybe say it a little less harsh. as from a girls point of view that sounds very blunt, swetten it up a bit and give an explanation.
good luck hunni

maybe you could add, have a nice Christmas, unless you don't care if she does or not.
otherwise seems perfectly fine and to the point to me.
sometimes there really is no point in flowering something up.
hope you are okay though...

In a letter would be harsh. In person where she can see your sincerity and you can hug her good bye would be the thing to do.
