Historically, which religion is responsible for the fewest number of human deaths? I can't think of an example of someone killing in the name of Buddha, but I could be wrong. I'm just curious.

Good for you Twinkles. I believe you're a goddess, but I'm only saying that to live up to my screen name.

I don't believe that religion is responsible for deaths. Still, a great number of people have been killed in the name of religion. Which is responsible for the least?

It is interesting that someone mentioned Jehovah's Wittness and Mormonism. These are still young religions, but I think their records are pretty clean.

Good answers people. Keep them coming.

Jehovah's Witnesses have always conscientiously objected to warfare. For decades now, a Jehovah's Witness cannot have privileges in his congregation if he carries a firearm intended for use against a human (perhaps as a policeman or guard).

Christianity is unique in that it has no provision for its adherents to engage in warfare. Those ostensible "Christians" who do so ignore the Scriptures and the teachings and example of Jesus Christ himself.

(Matthew 26:52) Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword

(Isaiah 2:4) They will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.

(2 Corinthians 10:3-4) We do not wage warfare according to what we are in the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly

(Luke 6:27-29) I [Jesus] say to you who are listening, Continue to love your enemies, to do good to those hating you, to bless those cursing you, to pray for those who are insulting you. To him that strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also

You're right by saying that no-one has killed IN THE NAME OF BUDDHA. Buddha does not condone the harming of any living thing be it physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. That said, the Samurai were Buddists.

As far as which religion is responsible for the least amount of deaths: I can positively say that Christians, Muslims and Catholics will not be on the list. Remember that 9 times out of 10 War has been initiated because of religious differences.

My personal guess would be Buddhists. Other considerations might be the Jews, Mormans and Amish. (?)

Jehovah's Witnesses---we do not go to war, but follow Jesus' command to love our enemies, and our neighbors. We will always be peaceable with all men. To take another's life by any means is a sin. Life is a gift from God. As Christians and worshippers of the Most High, we refuse to engage in warfare of any kind.

Yes, Buddhism is the best, Islam is the best, Christianity is the best...All the religions of the One Ture God are the best. No eyes can see all the good effects of religions throughout history. Now, with almost all the Holy Books easily accessible on the Internet, let us look for the divine lessons of love and practice them to reduce death and also to take good care of the elders too.

Buddhism and Hinduism have the notion of karma. This is far more noxious than anything else because it teaches people to be insensitive to the needs of others. The rates of death due to disease etc. are higher there than elsewhere.

Has a Buddhist ever killed himself by lighting themselves on fire, to prove some kind of point?

Or is that another religion that does that? (I'm also curious)
