My hubby wants to grow a beard? He looks like a homeless person.....I feel like throwing loose change at him when I walk past. What can I say to convince him?

Leave the poor guy alone! He's probably just fed up of shaving, a reaction I understand completely. How would YOU react if he reacted like this to something you wanted to do?

1. Some men look great with a beard / goatee / watever facial hair on. They look dignified and polished.

2. Some men DONT. This can be due to the fact that their facial structure just isnt right for them to be growing any form of facial hair. Either this, or they have no clue how to nurture and maintain the beard/goatee/watever.

If your husband falls into category #2, then perhaps u can be more constructive and give him some tips on how to maintain and take care of his beard / goatee such that he will look better (and not like a homeless guy).

ANd yes, perhaps its just a phase. you can hope!

Under normal circumstances perhaps one could make a case for growing a beard or wearing a Hijab but it is not obligatory as per the clear worded guidelines of the Quran. There is nothing in the Quran that will prevent you from shaving. We live in an age where the stereotype of a Muslim is well and stubbornly in place, Hijab for women and beards for men. It is also very evident that we, as Muslims have gravitated towards the comfort of physical identity as a reaction to this uncalled wholesale blasting of Muslims. The reasons behind it are many and varied but unfortunately our response has been Johny one tone, digging our heels and reinforcing these stereotype is not helping the individual Muslim on the street but is empowering the leaders of religious sect. They are delighted to find a large majority of Muslims demonstrating the herd mentality, which suits the leadership just fine, the more herd like you are, the more easy to manipulate you are. Our approach should have been and should be to try and diffuse the situation through the Islamic principles of moderation and peace. The more "in your face" you are going to be, the more "take that back" should be expected. Instead of concentrating on the Hijab and beard if we were to emulate the best example of the Prophet Pbuh by focusing more on God, the day of Judgment and remembrance of God as the verse Quran 33:21 clearly spells out and not twist it to mean physical appearance. Once we are able to place the verses in context and act them out, then the qualities of Momins, the qualities of truthfulness, humbleness, generosity and courage for the right reasons will shine through. We must not spend our time forever explaining away why we look the way we look but to use the opportunity and attract non Muslims to Islam through who we are and not how we look. We have to be mindful of the enormous undue pressure the teenagers go through, Muslims must address these real concerns and encourage them to adjust to their surroundings and feel accepted and not rejected because of a misplaced notion that they will be less Muslim if they don't conform to the take of some sect leaders. The interest of leaders, any leaders is to raise armies, their interests lies in regimentation and not individuality rooted in the principles of Islam and true Sunnah.

Let him be.

With any luck, the novelty will wear off when the beard starts to itch, as they do for men who have never had one. When that happens he will probably go back to shaving.

Besides, once he gets it actually happening and styled properly, you might quite like it. Cuts down on the beard rash problem from kissing too!

Cookie.....are you trying to tell us something?

You have a 'male' avatar and you are writing about your husband??? Hmmmmmm!! To each their own.

Any way......beards are awesome as long as he keeps it trimmed.
I can't stand guys with out a mustache and beard.

My sweetie has a great beard that is chiseled down to the jawline and at the chin connects up to his mustache. He keeps his neck shaved. He looks very classy and sexy. Have him try one that way. If you're a real "Cookie"...you'll love it.
