They are gently pasturised, then sealed in the bottle and kept refrigirated. They also have a much shorter hold time on the shelf.

They are probably microwaved, eradiated and zapped to death in the manufacturing process.

Its NOT true that natural fruit will stay fresh if it does not come into contact with air, just ask anyone that makes cider ( me ). A cushed apple in a sealed container will be a foul smelling mush in a week, and cider in 4 weeks.

So one can only assume that they zap all that bacteria ( and probably goodness ) out of the fruit.

As long as the air doesn't come into contact with them, a good seal and being vacuumed packed can avoid this, the smoothies will stay fresh. It is when food comes into contact with our air that they start to decompose, hence when something is frozen it stays fresh until thawed.
