Hello, I got my SS# when I was here on the student visa, but this was back in 1997. I just took my passport in to the Social Security office, filled out an application and got my SS# in 2 weeks. As long as your visa is not expired you should be able to get it. But then again the laws are a lot tighter now and I am not sure if you can get it that easily. Even my mom who was here on a visa got her social security number and she was here on the tourist visa. The only diference is that, they will put down different messages on the card. For permanent residents/citizen, there will be just a number and your name on it. For students or Work visa they will put down: Valid for employment only with INS authorization, for other ones: Not Valid for Employment.
Thats it,
Good luck

i believe you can get one if you are here on a working visa only otherwise SSN are for people who legally live in the u.s. as citizens or legal residents. Go to the social security web site. they might be able to help you.

No. with the intention to get a F-a million visa, you had to instruct the U. S. consulate sufficient money to study and once you purchased the visa, you've been informed you may want to artwork on campus purely as a lot as twenty hours a week. some scholars take jobs off-campus, yet it really is a contravention of the circumstances of the visa and could reason your status to be revoked once you're stuck.
