First off, if you need to lose weight, you sould look into activities that you can engage yourself in. Sweating yourself off will help you lose weight more than having a healthier diet. Choosing what you eat will support your weight-loss regimen further, though.

Once you've signed up for some great workout/exercises, try to rid your pantry off of any junk food and replace them with high-fiber foods (i.e. fruits and vegetables) that will make you easily feel full without adding on that much calories. There are some "fun" snacks out there that can give you the satisfaction of having a bag of chips minus the fats - such as whole-grain snacks (i.e. Sun Chips) - but be careful of the salt/sodium content as this is notorious for water retention (added weight).

You are basically looking into an entire lifestyle change - one that you will be able to commit to for ... well, forever. So think long and hard about this and have an expert help you lay out the ground work (i.e. a fitness instructor and nutrionist).

Lastly, and this may sound strange, but try to take 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil every night or have a constant supply of hot green tea during meals. Both have been proven to promote faster metabolism in a healthy, realistic way; which means in a slow but steady manner. Try to read more about these online or, better yet, talk to your nutritionist first.

As a moral booster, remind yourself that you are doing this not just to lose weight, but because you want to invest on a longer, happier life - the looking good part will just be a great trade-off you get from treating yourself really good.

All the best as you embark on this journey for a healthier you!

Keep it simple. Use more energy than you consume. I cant give up yummy food so I exercise more to keep the weight off. If your excessively overweight I would suggest very short walks, even just around the back yard at first. And small easy changes, like lunch can be a yummy sandwich with lots of salad but also lite ham and low fat mayo to give it more of a 'fatter' taste. (I usually have two!) If I were you I would go full healthy straight away as it wont work and the changes you make have to be sustainable. Instead of fried chicken have barbecued chicken. Its marginally better but if you keep slightly tweaking your daily eating habits you will find in a year you will be consuming much less calories.

DON'T DO ANY EXERCISE WITHOUT CONSULTING A DOCTOR!

Take it minute by minute if a day is too long and just handle one bad habit at a time.

less meat and more fresh fruits and veggies.
High protein/fiber rich foods keep you feeling fuller longer and give you needed energy. (eat proteins in small amounts).
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day by walking, swimming or bike riding as those are low-impact things to do.

You may want to try 'high-satisfaction' foods that stay with you longer, and you will eat less. Some are:

fish, potaotes, oatmeal, oranges, apples, whole-wheat pasta, steak, baked beans, grapes, popcorn, bran cereal, eggs, cheese, white rice, lentils, brown rice, crackers, cookies, white pasta, bananas, cornflakes, jelly beans, french fries, white bread

Best wishes..

That depends on what you can do, your motivation to stay on what you start, and your personal body chemistry and health. Personally I am on Atkins and I see results. It isn't easy but it is what I can do.
