When we play pool it happens that many times my friend pots his balls before me and is only left with black ball. Many times the black ball is behind the D-line (from where we break), in those situations if i am left with more than 2 balls then i commit foul i.e i pot the cue ball directly so that my friend cant hit black ball directly.
He says that i am playing negative game, but i believe am just using one of the features of the game. What do you guys say?

this is a common problem , it used to happen in the game of 8 ball a lot, I relize you are talking about snooker but with other games the ball in hand rule elimates the possibility of scratching on prurpose .

I will assume that you are playing 8 ball (black ball) and you are playing by the rules we here like to call "bar rules"....if the 8 ball is behind the line (called head string) you have to shoot forward of the line and would have to thus kick at the 8 ball....your shot in a "bar" rules would be called ...."chicken %#*#"...but you are still shooting and hopefully you are not in some real bar where they might end up shooting back at you!!!....done this before I learned to play under BCA Rules....your shot would be a foul and I would get the "ball in hand".....game over!!.....but in BCA rules you can play defense and although your opponent may think it in a "negative" way.....you live to take another shot if it would works out for you.....or unless he reverses it and leaves you with a "negative" shot as well.....good luck on the tour!....don't forget my 1% commission!!!

If I am playing against someone in pool and then if I get into a bind where they are winning. I might just play some defense. When I say defense I just trying to make it harder for them to win at that moment. Some people gets mad about it and some don't.
