It is amazing how many people answered this question without having a clue as to what they are talking about. It does not matter if you are rich or poor, republican or democrat. You need only express a believe in a higher power and be a man above the age of 21 to join. Just contact your local lodge and tell them you want to learn more about becoming a member. They will be happy to answer your questions. There should be a number in the phone book, but if you absolutely can not find the contact info, let me know and I will try to help.

To address some of the other answers on here, first of all, neither of the George Bushes are Masons. Also, many of the members of my lodge are democrats, although discussion of politics is forbidden in meetings, and most of us are nowhere near weathly. Most of us are just decent people who are trying to improve ourselves and our communities. We have black, white, Asian, and latino members. We have Christian, Jewish, and Muslim members. Race has nothing to do with it.

Best of luck to you in your quest to join our institution.

To be one, ask one. Find a Mason in your area, and he'll probably be quite happy to tell you about it. Or call your local Masonic lodge and ask someone there. They'll tell you more about the various requirements. You'll need to profess a belief in a supreme being and meet the age requirement.

I belong to an esoteric branch of Freemasonry that accepts both women and men of all races, called American Co-Masonry. I will speak of what I know of my Order. Others may wish to chime in on theirs.

In order to be considered for admission, the candidate must apply in writing (link below has a way to get an application). You must be at least 21 years of age, believe in a Supreme Being, be tolerant of religions other than your own, be tolerant of other races, be of good character, wish to improve the world by improving yourself.

Once you apply, you will be interviewed by at least three Master Masons of the Lodge closest to you. They will ask you about your reasons for wanting to join, what your family thinks about this, etc. Eventually, their reports will be read in Lodge and voted upon. If you still wish to join, the dues are very minimal. My Lodge dues are something like $40 a year.

To progress in Masonry requires study and memorization of some answers. It does not require you to be of any political party or religion. In fact, both topics are forbidden in our Lodges. We look for the unity of mankind, rather than that which divides.

If I can be of more help, feel free to contact me directly. Click on the link below for more info.

You can tell who here are Brothers...LOL

If you are in the U.S. you can go to this site which is the West Virginia Grand Lodges web site, and from it you can find the link to every other states Grand Lodge. Also for FYI...even in WV we don't get sodomized...LOL

Best of luck to you, and let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Don't charge for your services, but brick laying is hard work, and it's hard to pay your bills if you work for free.
