asking is that someone told me you can't enter a country unless your passport is valid for SIX MONTHS! That seems so unfair-I mean it will be valid for the time I am there! Does anyone have any information regarding this?

Some countries require your passport to be valid for six months, others do not. You must check with the embassy of the country you're going to visit. If you are a US citizen you don't need a visit for a visit, so my guess would be that as long as your passport is valid, you'll be OK. Here's the Italian Embassy website: http://www.ambwashingtondc.esteri.it/ambasciata_washington

Don't leave your passport renewal until the last minute though.
Happy travels!

so that means you have less than 6 months on you passport left ? your are not allowed to leave the US with less than 6 months on your passport , plus you also have possession of the old passport ?your passport must be machine readable ....it is the law ........

also :
Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of your trip and/or have two to four blank visa/stamp pages. Some airlines will not allow you to board if these requirements are not met.
it is not unfair ,there are reasons beyhond this action of the passport issues
i once tried to leave to go to Europe , and i was not allowed to leave the US. because of 6months left on my passport :it is the law .........
go to the nearest post-office , and get started ,
new pictures and paper work and send an Express service return for you passport ,
good luck

A valid passport, means just that; and besides there are consults in Rome, so you can get it taken care of at the consult of your country. Also if you have a plane ticket pior to your departure you will issued a new one right away, so look in to this,ok?

Hi, depending on your nationality you need a visa too. A local visa for Italy or a Schengen visa valid for all European Schengen countries.
Check these before booking. Your travel agent will give you the information you'll need.
