My kidneys have been hurting extremely bad, and I don’t know why. I’m young, I rarely drink, so on and so forth. I’ve been sick with a fairly bad cold, but I don’t see what that would have to do with my kidneys. I woke up this morning with the hurting like crazy, and it has stayed that way all day. I’m in pain people :( can anyone tell me what’s going on?

I want to add that when I say “killing me” I mean a very bad pain. Lol it could be worse, it’s not like a can’t walk etc. (it just makes it hard to though).
It’s not a sharp pain, more so a very painful constant... I don’t know what... in both kidneys.

You probably have a kidney infection. You should see a doctor. Also try drinking more water and cranberry juice (not cranberry juice cocktail, but real 100% cranberry juice) to flush out your system.

Have you had a bladder infection? It might have progressed to a kidney infection. Are you sure it's your kidneys? If it is, your lower back should also be killing you. Regardless, you should see a doctor immediately. If you do have a kidney infection you will eventually (soonish) become septic and then you're really in trouble. Several years ago I tried to "tough out" a kidney infection, which was totally stupid (although in my defense, I must say that my primary care doctor misdiagnosed it). I ended up in the ER at Cedars Sanai (sp? In Los Angeles) with a 104 temp. Fortunately I had not gone septic, but that little visit (3 hours, tops) set me back almost $4,000, and my kidneys did suffer some minor permanent damage. On the bright side, I learned that Cedars Sanai has valet parking.

get some cranberry juice tomorrow and drink all of it as quickly as you can, a day or two at the most, it has very high acid content that kills off lots of kidney and bladder infections, the cold can affect the kidneys if you are drinking a lot or if you arent drinking at all but pain meds also used to lower fever are hard on kidneys. good luck if it doesnt ease up in a day or two go to the doctor. your cold med might cause it too.

If the pain you are feeling is really severe, and I mean much worse than a toothache, you could have Renal Colic. I had it once and it was agony and thankfully it went away and has never been back. I believe it is sometimes caused by kidney stones which in my case passed through my urinary tract. Your best course of action is to see your Dr. A.S.A.P. because serious damage can be done. Hope this is of help to you. I feel for you if that's what you have because I know how much it hurts.

Call your doctor's office or just go there. You need to be seen by a medical professional for diagnosis and treatment. Hopefully, it's something easily taken care of with antibiotics. But you probably need to have labs done to tell for sure. Please, don't gamble with your health.

If money is an issue, take a book and go to the emergency room at your county's public hospital and wait to be seen after checking in.

If you need help getting the information necessary to do this, call your local United Way, and they can give you referral information. They can also help you by refering you to a local AskaNurse phone line, if there is one in your community.

I would check with your doctor.

Do NOT take any asprin, or asprin related products. They can cause excess bleeding, which can be very very very harmful to you.

You might have a serious infection, or you might've just bumped against something and have internal bruises (painful, just not a huge deal).

Best to ask your Dr.

You may have stones or an infection. If the infection is the result of a UTI this has probably been brewing for a while.....................

Then again, maybe you aren't drinknig enough water. Always try the simplest things first..
