In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.
Love and blessings

At first I thought you were serious. Actually I have heard this quote before.
It could be interpreted in two ways: 1. The church keeps going because there's an evil Satan out there to fight. Similar to terrorism keeping our military going. 2. The church in itself is evil, a radical belief held by some. Some people think the institution of the church has departed so far from original Christianity that it is in fact a tool of Satan. There is something to this, but I prefer not to believe this. Just because something is flawed doesn't mean it's evil or without hope (in which case, what hope do any of us have??).
Plus there are different interpretations of the word "church." Is it merely a building? Or is it an institution? Or is it a group of people united by their beliefs?
Do you really believe that churches pocket all your money? So much is used for relief funds, community service, etc etc. There are also necessary operational expenses--you think churches don't pay utility bills or make repairs on the building? In some cases they also pay rent. There are also people that work full-time at the church--janitors, secretaries, as well as ministers. Part-time employees would include technicians, repairmen, bus drivers, teachers, etc. Your community center or neighborhood gym gets money from the govt (your taxes) but churches receive no such assistance. Churches (or at least the ones w which I am familiar) do not "bill" their members. Offerings are exactly that--voluntary donations. I think the people griping about churches making money have never given a church A DIME and do NOT BELONG to any church!! Why would you otherwise have such a naive conception of how a church operates.
If you are talking about some filthy rich televangelist, then that is completely different. I am not judging them, but they have never received a penny from me. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, as far as those guys are concerned. Whenever I hear of some scandal involving them I am not at all surprised. I'm just surprised that anyone's faith would actually be shaken bc some weirdo was discovered engaging in secret weirdness. I feel the sorriest for a few of the legitimate evangelists out there who are tainted by association.
And here's my short answer: The Red Cross exists because people need blood. It's not the other way around.

Actually I thought the church was supposed to get 20% of your salary. I reckon I was told wrong. Or maybe you got it wrong. lol
As for your question (which was more of a statement rather than a question). No, i don't think the churches have stayed open this long because satan has helped keep them open. People go to church to pray to their lord and to share the lord's wisdom and blessings, and to learn the bible and to learn their religion. Even if satan didn't exist, the churches would always be open, forever.

all leaders look for fools. the COS is no different. to be king, you need followers, to be seen as strong, you need the weak...
Life is an individual walk, and if group work is needed as the only way to achieve it you have suddenly weakened your strength. team work is good, but reliance upon a 'family' in order to believe in something is mindless. some people need guidance, but I am not convinced that another person can know what is prefect for me. without truly knowing ourselves why do people believe others can find it for us?
money talks, yet life is free to anyone to hear without cost.
the church of jesus is guilty, and the COS is also. Though the COS is preferable to xianity for its embracement of the friuts of enjoyment, it makes it seem like its a 'cool' thing to do, and essential to hate christianity. rubbish. you dont need to hate to validate a belief. hate shows doubt of choice, and condemnation for alternatives that may be 'the way'. if people actually truly believed in something, nothing else would matter.
chose life, be born, live and die in it your way. blah blah blah...rant
