why is it that God would allow bad things to happen in our lives, from which, i think our madness actually comes from our pain...? Like the saying "misery loves company". when a person have never experienced same pain, he or she would pray that no one be in a bad situation. but when it had happened to him/her, he/she wont even be bothered to pray for his/her fellow bec he/she thinks its a normal part of life - madness...!

If bad things didn't happen in our life, how would we know the good things are good. If bad things never happened to us, how would we ever mature. If bad things never came our way, how would we know how [they] feel when they are going thru.. God will make something good out of everything bad in our lives if we love Him. That is a promise from Him. He always does for me. When something bad happens in my life, I ask God what He is about to do in my life. I look for something great to happen every single time something bad happens..

God allows for free will for you to make your own choice about what you do. Do you think that means that God allows bad things to happen to you or that you made a bad decision that brought consequences? Maybe you didn't make it last night, but even 20 years ago.

Sometimes a bad experience is the only thing that brings us back down to 'needing' Christ. It's kinda like a trucker following their GPS...if you make all the turns you're supposed to, you get to your destination without incident. However, if you pay more attention to the song on the radio and miss your turn, it tries to route you back on track the fastest and most direct route. If you're a trucker, you could find that disasterous! (you can end up routed under a bridge that is too short.)

Ever hear the phrase, "Ces't La Vie."? That's French for such is life.
I am not sure of the passages right now as it is nearly four am and I should be sleeping...but I'm not. But that question is there many, many times. the answer? Well, in one passage God says someting like, if there was no bad in the world how would we know or appreciate good? Or another that says, "All things are good in the eyes of the Lord." Now this doesn't mean that what you and I think of as "good" is the same as what God thinks of as "good".

Think of it this way. If you turn the stove on and it lights up just as it was meant to that would be good but if a little child came along and touched the flame and burnt themself, they would think it was a bad thing. But it wasn't the child just made a bad choice and hopefully they learned from it and won't do it again. What would the child learn if every single time the parent came along and pushed them away from the flame? They would learn to depend on the parent for everything and they would never grow as an individual person because the parent would always be there doing everthing for them. I don't think this is what God had in mind when God created the world and gave us free will.

Because, we are like children and we continue to make bad choices and do dumb things to each other or put ourselves in dumb situations because we expect our parent, God, to come along and stop us but you know, after a while a parent has just got to step back and let the child make mistakes. But I am afraid that we haven't learned anything yet.

All faiths and not just Christianity wrestle with this question.
I think God set things into motion. We all have free will and we choose to right or wrong. God doesn't make people start wars, they choose too do that and then use God as a scapegoat.

We are here on this Earth to live life and that means all tears and laughter that go with it. Life isn't easy and if it was we certainly would not appreciate it. It's just not supposed to be. I guess we hae a lot to learn here before we go on to the great beyond. I think the other creatures of the world understand this far better than we do. Perhaps that's why we needed so much help. Like God sending Jesus down to show us the way.

Praying is not maddness, is should be comfort. Life is life and faith helps you to understand that. I pray, please let my firend come home safe and alive from Iraq and let the ridiculous war end soon because all the innocent people are being slaughtered, but it is really up to we humans to do that. I know full well that my friend may be wounded or worse when he returns for the fourth time next month. Who's fault is that? It isn't God's fault. God gave us life, a planet, free will and our analytical brains. It's the free will that we mess up with probably because we are arrogant. God didn't want us to be puppets, God wanted us to live just like God wants all the things God creates to live. God created viruses and bacteria and gave them a means to transport from host to host, why would God not want them to thrive? When they do as God intended that is probably a good thing in God's eyes but to us, it's bad. Is it because we don't comprehend the hugeness of God?

We can't expect God to just swoop in and fix everything like a superhero and many people do that. They think that is what praying is. They think it's like the Bat signal for God but it isn't. because sometimes when you pray for something the answer is, "No." and we don't know why, we just have to learn to accept it.
Ever hear of the serenity prayer?
God help me to change the things I can,
Accept the things I cannot
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Life isn't all peach pies and cookies! Crap happens, and we have to learn how to accept it without blaming God and get through it with our respective faiths intact, and figure out where "we", as a species, went wrong and how to stop it from happening again.

Good question for conversation! :)

Guest it's time for another copy and paste from the last 3 times I answered this.... and keep in mind God does not allow bad things to happen people do... I don't allow my children to do bad things however it is a choice that they make.....

I was raped by my stepfather and if not for the strength of the Lord I would not be here, My mother is dieing from Aids and if not for the strength and comfort I found in his word I would not have made it through that, my brother-in-law raped my daughter in my house if not for the strength I have in him I would have killed him instead of forgiving him, I would not have the strength to admit that here on this site if God wasn't here with me, if not for God and my faith in him when my husband and I both lost our jobs as many others did after 9/11 and we were evicted and lost everything we would not have had the strength to stand, and first and far most if not for the God that I love and serve when two different doctors told me I would never have a child I would have given up and lost my faith and I would not have the 2 children that he blessed me with..... I don't blame God for the things that went wrong in my life BUT I THANK HIM, GLORIFY HIM, PRAISE HIM, STAND BECAUSE OF HIM, AND LOVE HIM FOR ALL THE MANY WAYS HE BROUGHT ME OUT OF THOSE SITUATIONS WITHOUT A BLIMISH OR SCAR!!! I did not sale my body to get my bills paid because I waited on the Lord, I did not curse his name when my mother got sick because the choices she made and the enemy she chose to serve at that time put her in that death bed and God is the reason why she has not taken HIV medication but ten years later she is still here!!! So you can find fault in him if you chose but I know him have faith in him and serve him I know through it all he has never left my side but if I only believe he will bring me out on top of every situation! So may be if everyone would stop practicing hate, doubting him, not believing in him, and forsaking him put these keyboards down and lift his name up and pray for the afflictions you are speaking of may be just may be if it is his will he will stop those things but, I guess most of you will never know if he will because you are too bust searching for ways to disprove him.... Amen, Thank you Jesus and goodnight I am going to go pray!!!!

What God allows is for us to learn that we cannot rule ourselves. Like children, we have to learn the hard way to see for certain that only God's Rule will make everything perfect. Yes, it means bad things happen, but compare that to all the good that will happen from everlasting life on a paradise earth, forever.

What makes you think God allows bad things to happen in your life? If someone told you God was responsible for keeping you happy and without strife, then they lied to you.

There is a lesson in every painful event in your life. Your job is to find the lesson and learn it. If God didn't care about you, you would not exist. Would that be better?

Rock on, Alicia!

God's will is not always done on earth. That is why the Lord's Prayer says "your will be done on earth as it is in heaven".
We pray this because his will is not always done here but if we fight for him then we can influence people's lives and have God's will working through their life. THis is the exciting part of being christian but it doesn't just happen. You have to fight.

This is and has been a serious question for christians...
for other religions also...

there is no single, simple answer...but, for serious considerations of the many aspects of this question...

let me suggest that you look up the word "theodicy"...
that is the "technical" theological term for the problem of god "allowing" evil/misery/unfortunate/bad/pain/...etc, etc etc
to exist in the world...

I hope this helps...

You need to read the Bible and get to know the heart of God.
It would take a very long time to explain.
God is a truly awesome Father.
Who loves His children.
He said above all thing I wish you to prosper and be in good health even as your souls prosper.
