Do you think prayer in schools would help?
when I was in school we started each day with a prayer by the principal over the intercom and the pledge of allegiance to the flag now neither is done and things are getting worse all the time would this help at all?
I am not saying to require them to pray but someone saying a prayer what I don't understand is many kids who go to school would welcome a prayer to begin the day for all but because some people that didn't like it as usual got up in arms and denied the rights of others while gaining their rights
who's rigth and who's wrong if it's a matter of choice where is the choice for those who want it?

prayer was in schools from america's founding until 1962.

and since we decided to kick God out of schools, look at what's happened?

schools are filled with violence, rape, drugs, and death. teachers no longer have control of their students and kids can't learn because the classes are unruly.

call me a right wing nutjob or whatever you want, but i think we are "liberating" ourselves into our own destruction.

I am a true Christain, my daughter attends a christian preschool & will attend their Elemtary as well as my other children. I do believe that the pledge of alligance should be said in school, however I draw the line at prayer in public school i believ there is a line between church & state. I live in Michgan, we have the highest arabic popuation outside the middle east, so I will use this as a example... we say prayer in public school, we say the christian, then we must say the muslim, then what about buddists? I mean in a large city that couldd take a hour, I prefer my daughter to know our religion that is taught at our home & church (even christanity varies)

The problem is there are so many kids in school who are not christian. Their parents would insist on themhaving their own special prayer in school. Would want muslims to stop what ever they are doing every day and pray towards mecca 5 times a day.
Would want the witches to comein for their session, The buddist would want their trun at doing theior thing in the class room.
Personally I see nothing wrong with it except I would not wish my kids (if I had any school age) to be a part of christianity. If Christianity is to be taught in school than I want my chance at telling your kids it's not true and ATHEISM is the way to go.
We used to have prayer also every morning, and I enjopyed the time out but could never understand why this wasn't doen at church and even as alittle kid I wondered what right did that principal have in forcing me to listen to his preaching and prayers.

The thing is, it's not a matter of choice.

If the principal is doing it, students would feel out of place (especially very young students) if they were not. If many other students are praying, this causes a peer-pressure chain, although it is unintentional, for other students who are not praying. If very few students pray, then this is the same peer-pressure reaction but reversed; those who pray feel pressured not to because nobody else is.

The Pledge of Allegiance was taken out of daily routine because it addresses God, specifically. Religion is growing an ever more sensitive subject these days, and some people don't want their kids to be addressing God as the one watching over our "one nation".

If, in fact, you want your children to pray every day, teach them to pray before they go to bed or to pray before they eat a meal. I think that's the best way as it's individually taught and not something school-wide.

Are we talking about public schools? If so, prayer does not belong in the public school system, for many reasons. For example, many kids in public schools are from different religious backgrounds or are not from a religious family. It would be something that perhaps not all students would participate in. Which, if it is only good for some, then why bother.
Another point is that prayer is not going to stop children from getting in trouble. They are going to be wild and unruly, and not because of the lack in prayers. Children today are in trouble more because of the LACK OF DISCIPLINE....There is no other way to explain it. I could imagine when you were in school, physical discipline was used, or wasn't as taboo as it is today. Children would be more fearful to act out. Now, when they get in trouble, nothing can really be done. All methods have changed and it is now illegal to physically discipline. You aren't even allowed to spank a child now.

But if their were children in the school system who WOULD welcome prayer, then maybe they could meet before class, for a "prayer meeting."

Prayer is for church, not school. I actually went to my child class yesterday and was a little put off by the fact that the kids have to have a moment of silence after the pledge with their heads down!!. What the heck is that all about? I do not want my children growing up believing that they don't have full control of their own lives.

as long as there are tests at school there will be prayer. you may no longer substitute that. it relatively is no longer suited for a instructor to lead scholars in prayer. For one difficulty, the 1st modification forbids it. for yet another, this us of a is so religiously diverse that there is a huge threat the instructor and a few of his scholars would have diverse faiths. Do you stick to the religion of the instructor (for that reason "coaching" the student that the instructor's faith is actual) or of the student (forcing the instructor to make diverse prayers in faiths which they might or won't have self belief in)? Do you have a prayer that's so imprecise it may practice to any faith (which might recommend it is so imprecise it would offend any truthfully god/goddess listening to it)? Do you waste time finding out what the religions of each and every of the scholars in the class are and then having prayer for each of them on a daily basis? Do you ascertain you have ten male Jewish instructors/scholars who've been bar mitzvahed to make up a minyan? perfect to no longer have any actual prayer in any respect, rather.

Hi,

I had readout a book "The Power of Sub-Conscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy. This book states that every prayer returns. So doing prayer is a good thing which trained to our subconscious mind and gives us possessiveness. If you want to more about why we will do prayer, please read out this book. Teenagers are good in capturing of knowledge so if they do prayer at school so they will be more positive and strong mind for decision making.

Thanks,
Sashikanta

Where I went to school they do the national anthem and then they did a moment of silence for the ones who did want to say a prayer and the ones who didnt would look at there fingers and stare around the room (like me). In all the schools I have been to we always had the option.

hello

some where we all are believe in prayer, no one can ful fill their requirement by their own, when ever we do prayer, we feel inner so good, our thinkings for some time, get changed.

just try to do prayer and get your answer by your self, donot think you are doing prayer for yourself, just think its a part of life, which should be complete, and always be greenish, which mean you donot get water or refreshment foods, but you have to do prayer,

within a week you feel some changes, which realise you what is the meaning of prayer

have a nice time!!!

bye

no theres too many religions. and if one child doesnt believe in what the majority of others do then they get ragged on bad! but they do have a moment of silence after the pledge, so they can always do a silent prayer if they felt the need.
