I was arrested in California for shoplifting. I never gave my social security number or my driver's license number. The only thing the cop wrote down is my name and my address. I was never booked.. no mug shot or fingerprinting done. If I never showed up for my court date, will the cops actually come knocking on my door or will the warrants just be out there?

It's called Failure to Appear and the result is quite simply that a bench warrant is issued for you. If it's a big city, chances are they won't come looking for you at your house, but if you get pulled over for any reason and they run your license, you'll be arrested on the spot and then things get much worse. I missed my court date for littering in college (just forgot all about it) and they came to my dorm and arrested me. They let me go once we got the jail and it was a smaller city, but they did come to me, so it's really hard to say.

If you missed your date, call them - get it taken care of.

Since they only wrote you a ticket and never took proof of your id they have no real proof it was you. Someone could of been using your name. I would advise you to never shop lift again tho. The ones that look for you are the marshals and put it this way my x has had a bench warrent now for 4 years for spousal battery and no one is looking for him. I guess it would depend on what city you lived in too tho and how much work they have. You will know ahead of time since you will get a notice in the mail that there is a warrent for your arrest for failure to appear. You might think about going to the court but before you go take the shoplifters class and go to a few meetings so that way when you go to court you can show the judge that you realized you had a problem and on your own you took care of it. They will tell you to have a nice day and not to show your face in thier court room again. If it would of been a serious crime that you commited the cop would of taken you to jail. You might as well take care of it and not have to worry about it and maybe having it bite you in the butt someday in the future. You wont go to jail. Just take the classes. which i think are two saturdays for 6 hours. It is better to be safe than sorry.

the reality which you're "in effortless terms a minor" ability rather no longer something. You have been issued a courtroom date, to look earlier a decide, to respond to on your movements. once you probably did no longer look, the courtroom possibly issued a bench warrant. in case you get stopped by utilising police for any reason earlier you're looking after this problem, they are able to arrest you and carry you in penal complex till you get a courtroom visual attraction. right this is what you do. call the county courthouse, juvenile branch, and ask to be located on calendar as quickly as a possibility. finding on the size of the county you're in, you will the two be located on a calendar that date or will settle for a date to "return on the warrant." At that factor, the courtroom will deal inclusive of your site visitors cost ticket.

Intentionally skipping a court date because the cop only wrote down your name and address is stupider then getting caught shoplifting in the first place.

Go to court take care of the situation and take your punishment like a man who got caught and should.

You will get a bench warrant for failure to appear in court, then you have 2 counts against you. They will catch up with you eventually. Better to show up and keep your side of the street clean. Have you stopped stealing?

Get it fixed now or you'll spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder...or, until you get stopped and the warrant pops up in the police computer.

If you choose to ignore your court appearance, the penalty once you are finally caught...and you will be...will be double or triple what the penalty could be now...perhaps even jail time.
It's just not worth taking that chance.

If it's your first offense, you might get off pretty easy without any jail time...depending on your demeanor in court...
(i.e. "yes, your Honor"..."no, your Honor")

Probably just be out there.... UNTIL you get stopped for something else then they can haul your ____ off to jail. The warrants will be out there forever! When you try to renew your licence you'll hear about it.
