I work at a porn store, as a cashier. I've been told this is an inappropriate place for me to work. What do you think?

Why is it inappropriate? What girls can only be in porns not sell them? PUHLEASE! Girls can work in a porn store if they want to and people who tell you that you shouldn't are simply not comfortable with their sexuality or sex in general.

PS Can you get me a discount on a pocket rocket.. .those things are like $50! Mine just died... :(

The real question is whether you find it inappropriate or not. If you're not interested in porn, then maybe you shouldn't work there. Not because it's inappropriate, but because you won't know enough about the product to help your customers properly. It's really what you want to do. A job is a job, some will say, but a job is something you do every day... you have to enjoy and not be uncomfortable in the work environment. Do what you want to make yourself happy!

It's every bit as appropriate for a girl to work at a porn store as it is for a guy to work at a porn store. There are some people who believe a woman should hide her sexuality and carry off as a chaste little damsel. They are called sexists, and their viewpoint should not bind you (though they're entitled to it under the 1st Amendment).

I think it's fine, just make sure you're not compromising your safety (for instance, I'd say no to a graveyard shift alone).
A lot of people think that a porn store is an inappropriate place for ANYONE to work, so go figure.

Not at all. That is if you don't mind most everyone that comes in there label you as "promiscuous" (to put it nicely). Or if you don't mind the occasional pervert trying to pick you up...or worse.
Not to mention what people will assume about you that don't frequent these stores but know where you work. Don't care what people think? You must or you wouldn't even question if it was appropriate.

They say its inappropriate, bec of two factual reasons:
1. You eventually seep in the aura of the people you come in contact with; its a porn store, so u know who u meet everyday. they will be the same person u will become in the near future. no kidding....think about it. bec it eventually becomes the facts of life.
2. depends on how u would like people to think of u. Remember, in the business of retailing, sales staff are ambassadors of the company/store. so in ur every waking life, while u work in that porn store, u r being the ambassador of that store.

To answer your question it'd be smart to define what appropriate means "suitable for a particular person or place or condition"... Thus it'd seem to me that you being a girl in a porn store is appropriate, as you are not a sex offender, or a serial rapist.

I think it's a little inappropriate, but if you need the job and keep your nose clean you can look for something better while you draw a paycheck.
Just don't become part of the merchandise.

I have worked at sevral porn stores, and I never had a problem with women co workers and I doubt the patrons do either. I don't see the big deal about it
