First, use an icepick or a fork to perforate the skin of the spud deep enough to vent some of the rather considerable amount of water contained within that will be brought to a boil as you cook it in the microwave.
Your microwave instructions may have specific timing and heat settings for potatoes, but I suggest setting about 50 percent and baking for about three to five minutes. A lot depends on how powerful your oven is. It's best to go for a short time and check the potato with a fork to see if it has softened.
Continue to cook if it isn't.
Be sure to let the potato cool a little before you try to eat it. You could burn yourself if you don't.
Enjoy!!!

put the potatoe on for about 4 min. and the check it with a fork and then treat it just like a baked poato if it doesn't come out done then put it back in for a min or two I don't cook in the microwave but my buddy on the phone is telling me how to do it for ya good luck ohhh yeah you might want to poke holes in it or slice it down the middle so it doesn't blow your head off as your watching it thru the microwave window and then you will have mashed potatoes to clean up

The best way is to poke it several times with a fork, coat it in butter and place it in a sandwich bag. Then place it in the microwave for about 5 to 6 minutes. it will come out very hot,but make sure that it is done, by squeezing it, with a fork. This way you don't get such a hard area next to the skin.
