I have a 3 month old shih tzu who has his cat moment. He licks/cleans his from paws all the time and he likes to sit on my shoulders when im on the couch. Also, when i take him in my backyard he would walk around for less than 5 min and then run to the door and once i opened it he would rush himself to the mat and rubs his paws on it and licks it to clean it. IS THAT NORMAL?! all my friends think its weird that a dog is doing it, and i do too. haha PLEASE let me know whats going on with my puppy!

Yes, it is normal for Shih-tzus to act very cat like. My 2 do things that are cat like all the time. Their favourite toy is a laser pointer, they can chase the beam for hours, my labX looks at them like they are crazy.........hehehe. They also like to bat their toys around with their paws a lot when they play.

It's fine, especially since he's still a puppy. Sounds rather cute to me! I had the opposite situation several years ago with a cat who thought she was a dog! She constantly followed me around like a puppy - and even licked my face, which is odd for a cat. But it was cute! It wore off after a while. I don't think you have anything to worry about...seriously.

I think it's normal. He is just a puppy. You can train him a manner lesson if you want. There are lots ot dog's school if you really look for it or maybe you can buy a book about it.

You don't have a dog--you have a ShihTzu--that's a little person in a fur coat!!! I hope when he came in you had appetizers and drinks for him!!! I grew up with ShihTzu's and Poodles--which could explain why I now own Labs and Beagles!! But they are very cute and intelligent little pups!!

my dogs a pug and he cleans himself by licking himself like a cat so i think it might be normal
