My girlfriend and I were talking about Jesus. It came to a point that we realized that we had been taught two completeley different stories about Jesus' childhood. I had always read in the bible that Joseph fled with Mary to Egypt with Jesus until Herod was dead. However, my girlfriend had been taught that Mary and Joseph had put Jesus in a basket and sent him down a river. And that someone had found him and raised him.

Now I was raised in a Catholic family with fairly strict Catholic beliefs. She was raised in a traditonal Christan family and attended a Christan daycare for six years. Is it possible that there is a different version of the bible out there with different teachings regarding Jesus' childhood? Or, are there any other stories in the bible that one of us may have gotten confused with what we had been taught?

Your girlfriend has gotten the story of Moses confused with Jesus. Tell her that she is not right and read the gospel (New Testament) accounts of the birth and early life of Christ our Lord. You may want to read the Old Testament account of Moses starting in the book of Exodus. Just read the whole book of Exodus and this will give you a good understanding of who Moses was. He lived and died way before Jesus was ever born on earth. God bless you both as you increase your knowledge of the Lord.

The Holy Family did flee to Egypt until the death of Herod. It was MOSES who was put into the basket and sent down the river. The Princess of Egypt found him while she was bathing in the Nile and picked him up. She knew that he was a Hebrew and saved him. Moses' sister, Miriam, was watching from the riverbank and approached the Princess and asked her if she would like to find for her a Hebrew nurse to feed the baby. The Princess said yes, and Miriam ran home and told her mother, and Moses' mother nursed him, until he was weaned. Which back in those days could've been anywhere from 3-7 years old.

Baby Jesus escaped because Joseph had a dream telling him to take the child and his mother an flee into Egypt. He got up right then and there and they all left in the middle of the night.

Maybe the two of you should read the bible out loud to one another. Then take notes, then have a test and see who gets the higher marks.
