I have done this years ago, cannot remember exactly how long I boiled it for but I do know that I pierced a hole in the top of the time to prevent it from exploading, from memory it was about thirty to fourty minutes, but not a hundred percent sure, but it comes out a lovely caramel flavour, I used it for a filling in biscuits that were made from Anzac's warmed in oven a pushed into a hollow cup shape and then filled them with the cooked condensed milk.

Yes. You're getting mixed feedback because it is potentially dangerous. In a Dutch oven or stock pot place the can on a rack and cover with 4-6 inches of water. This is from the top of the can. The can must remain covered. The can must be off of the bottom of the pot. I use a steamer basket. This keeps the temperature at 212 degrees and not over. Going over is what can burst the can. Boil for 4 hours.

yes you can but you must cover the can with water, remember not in between the level of the can but totally cover it more than enough to boil it for an hour, then you have to cool it for about 15 minutes before opening it.These is how my mother used to cook condense milk to make a caramel.

Oh no, you might have hot milk on your ceiling. If you must do so, use an old fashioned can opener to poke a hole in the top first and simmer, not boil with water about half way up the can.

Here is your answer.

Directions:
We do not recommend heating milk in the can.

STOVETOP: Pour 1 can (14 oz) CARNATION Sweetened Condensed Milk into top of double-boiler pan; cover. Place over boiling water. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 40 to 50 minutes, or until thick and light caramel-colored. Remove from heat. Beat until smooth.

OVEN: Preheat oven to 425° F. Pour 1 can (14 oz.) CARNATION Sweetened Condensed Milk into 9-inch pie plate. Cover with aluminum foil; place in shallow pan (pan should be larger than pie plate). Fill pan with hot water. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until thick and light caramel-colored. Pour milk into small mixer bowl; beat until smooth.

MICROWAVE: Pour 1 can (14 oz.) CARNATION Sweetened Condensed Milk into large microwave-save bowl. Cook on MEDIUM (50%) power for 4 minutes, stirring halfway through heating time. Reduce power to MEDIUM-LOW (30%) power; cook for 8 to 12 minutes, stirring with wire whisk every few minutes, until thick and light caramel-colored.

Note: Microwave ovens may vary; adjust timing accordingly.
Have Fun! I read the reviews and they were all wonderful.
