My wife and I recently got a kitten from the local shelter and took her in for her shots. One of the shots she got was the DRC, or distemper respiratory combo. Is it common for a kitten to have a runny nose after getting this shot, or should we be concerned?

Some kittens and cats can have a slight reaction to the vacc's, and get a slight touch of the disease that it has just been vaccinated for.

Please get in touch with the vet and tell them your kitten has the sniffles, she may need a course of meds. If she had been at the shelter for a little while and in contact with the older cats, or the others who have cuddled the kitten have been, she may have a slight touch of flu. Nothing to worry about though as it is easily treated.

We are very careful with our kittens, anyone who has been in contact with the older cats at the shelter is not allowed to touch the kittens. And everyone has to use the disinfection hand wash before touching the kittens.

greater respiratory infections are very hassle-free in cats and kittens. maximum individuals of circumstances are viral and the kittens prefer supportive care extremely than antibiotics (as a result saline might ok have been suggested by the veterinarian and is no longer unavoidably an illustration that the breeder is mendacity to you). in spite of this there are some greater respiratory infections which would be bacterial in foundation consisting of Chlamydia or bacterial infections can take place secondary to a universal viral an infection - in those circumstances antibiotics are indicated yet actually that's no longer the case. that's necessary ascertain your kitten is ingesting exact (in many circumstances they won't consume if congested and no longer able to sniff their nutrition) and staying hydrated. For the congestion, it may help to place her in a small room with a humidifier or placed her contained in the bathing room for ~15-20 minutes with the warm water working contained in the bathe so as that the room gets all steamy - this might help moisten up the airlines and help with the congestion. If she stops ingesting, will become torpid or has project respiratory (greater respiratory fee, open-mouthed respiratory, and so on) then she desires veterinary care and specific medicine. otherwise, even nonetheless no longer an emergency, she might desire to nevertheless pass in for a "verify up" and to check out the project of itchiness that's probably unrelated to the sneezing. stable success with your new kitten!

Hello
I am not sure about the effects of various shots on kittens, so I can't say if that is common. However, I just wanted to say that you really should take it to the vet just to be on the safe side. If there is something wrong it will be much better to get early treatment. OK. Good luck!

I am not so sure, but I don't think kittens get runny noses after shots. They do get them when they have a cold or something, and that must be treated before it turns worse and can't stop. I think you must ask your vet either way, the one who gave her the shots or any other vet, after you tell him what shots she had. He will tell you if it is normal or if she must take medication.
