Sometimes I'll be feeling fine and out of no where I just start feeling sad even though I have no reason to be sad. When I try to figure out why I'm sad I can't come up with an answer.

I don't think it's depression because I've been depressed before and it was much worse than what I'm going through now.

There are different levels of depression so even if it doesn't feel like it, it could be a mild form. Or you could have Dysthymic Disorder. Not everyone has enough serotonin in their brain to make them happy or optimistic all the time. You probably just have decreased levels. There doesn't have to be a reason for you to feel that way, it just is because that's how your brain's chemicals want to function. I'm the same way but I am now on meds and I have to say that (unlike what 'natural healer" said) they DO REMEDY the underlying problem that's how they get rid of the symptoms because they work on the molecular level (hence the name "medication") in order to increase the serotonin or dopamine. So if you are in this state for a long period of time, to the point that it affects your life, then you do need to see a doctor and consider meds. People like "natural healer" that don't really understand what long term depression is should not be giving advice to people. It is impossible to cure true Dysthymic disorder or mild persistent depression with healthy food ect. Hers was probably temporary depression if that worked for her. I've had a lot of psychology because I'm in the medical field.
First off, don't just jump to any conclusions, give yourself more time before thinking about meds. Your INITIAL steps can be exercise to increase serotonin and talking about it but don't push your limits, if you need professional help because it last a really long time (no matter how mild it may seem) get help.

Chemicals in your brain my be causing slight depression; nutrition, sunlight or exercise may clear that imbalance right up. My depression (much more severe that yours) has been cured by using an all natural mineral supplement that gives my body what it needs to function. Sometimes all our bodies need to fight a problem is a simple mineral or vitamin and it takes care of the healing part. I've seen some amazing recoveries with all natural solutions. Don't take a drug for help as they will only treat the symptoms and not the underlying problem. email me any time for nutrition or health questions.
