Copies will do just fine! Do not send anything original. USBCIS will ask for any originals if needed! When I filed for my permanent residence, I sent only copies of all documents including immunization records! INS will specify at a later date which documents must be original! They will notify you in writing. The only original I handed over was my medical exam and my I-94 (Arrival/ Departure Record). My passport and visa was looked at, at the interview , stamped and approved for I-485 (Permanent residence). Good luck!

No just copies are not accepted . They are going to want an original copy plus a copy . the original copies are the ones you get directly from the clerks office and then from that one you can have copies made. BUt be sure to get an extra original so when you send in the original you still have one. Make sure you send exactly what is asked for to the letter. Anything missing will compeltly slow the process. The INS will not return anything. What you send will stay on file. This is why it is important to get extra originals of everything that you are sending. As a personal Id all you have to do is go to a notary public and get a notorized confirmation of your id and send that. You dont send your gov. issued id or drivers license to the INS. To make postive certainty of what you should be sending you can also check the site that will tell you everything you need to know.

I think copies would be appropriate to send. If you like, you can go to the bank where there is a notary public, and ask them to make copies and notarize the copies so that the INS will understand that they were made in the presence of an authority and that should make your copies perfectly acceptable.

There's no telling when or if they would return your originals, and you ARE going to need those.

Send only copies of all information. Never send your originals to anyone. If they insist on the original go there and when you leave make sure your documents are with you.
Believe me these agencies loose more documents than you can imagine.
All government agencies that require documents accept copies.
Good luck.

Please call the INS and ask them. Advice from here could be wrong and delay your process or worse you could end it entirely by giving misleading information intentionally.
