Yes. My daughter had jaw surgery and the orthodontist put a permanent retainer on the back of her teeth yet she still has to wear her retainer to sleep in for the rest of her life. Or she can expect her teeth to shift.

I am sure the purpose for which the jaw surgery was done has been achieved. The purpose for which the braces were given is also nearing to meet the result. It is most likely you will have to wear the retainer for the period it is necessary to retain the position of teeth. It may not be the right time to start looking for esthetics. This can wait till such time that the retainer is through with its purpose. Good luck

you poor thing! i had lower mandable jaw surgery a few years ago.
The post surgery 6 weeks was MISERABLE. I always found new ways to sip things. I took a little bit of a taco and some meat from taco bell, blended it up, and tried to sip. I WAS SO HUNGRY!!!

I know how you feel right now. Another of my buddies came to me because he was having the same thing done, I gave him all my recipes for blending. Ice Cream + Equate + Peanut Butter + Chocolate + Sugar = Daily Milkshake.

Post removing the brace, I remember having to wear my retainer so my teeth wouldn't Relapse and fall into a horrible position. Chances are, if they were correcting your bite, they wanted your teeth in a certain position. I think maybe 3-6 months of teeth straightening is required so your bite stays correct.

GOOD LUCK! ONLY 1 WEEK TO GO!!!! Worst 6 weeks of my LIFE!!!
