I love eating out, but only if I'm eating something I feel like I couldn't make any better.
For example, some of my favorite things to eat in a restaurant are:
chicken fajitas (from border cafe)
jack daniels chicken (from TGI Fridays)
and steak (Ruths Chris or this hibachi place in town)
Some things you just can't make the same way a restuarant does! I don't like to eat salmon out, or wings, or ribs, because I love how I make these things myself.
There's also the convenience factor. Dining out is usually faster than if you cook, serve, and clean up yourself. And you can relax rather than stress over a nice meal!

time spent with a good friend or good friends and family, just relaxing without anyone being worried that the food is too cold, hot, salty, whatever. Everyone (except the designated driver) can loosen up and be happy.
You should always order food you can't make at home when you go out.

You get to enjoy a meal without having to cook it or clean up afterward. You also get to enjoy the company of a dinner partner and possibly try out a meal you would never prepare at home.

You don't have to clean it up. If it doesn't come out perfect, you can send it back (though I highly oppose sending food back).
I love to cook though, so sometimes staying in and saving money is a benefit.

You don't have to cook and you can meet new people and not have to wash dishes and you know that the food is really good even if its not good for you!
