if i go full time in the air national guard would i get paid the same as a full time army soldier? What constitutes going full-time in the Guard? Do you still only drill one-weekend a month, two weeks a year or do you have more responsibilities and drilling?i know that if i get deployed that i will get paid full time. but if i get a job serving full time in the guard instead of full time, would i be considered a full time airman with the same benefits?I know that when you're group is activated you are considered full-time/active duty. It wouldn't make sense any other way, but can you go full-time in the Guard? Can you make being in the National Guard your full-time job or is it only if your unit is activated or deployed that you go on active status? If you're in the Guard are you a part-time airman all the time until you get deployed? Or can you take the option of serving in the Guard as your full-time job? If anyone has had the experience with this, please email. Only serious answers.

Wow, for that many questions you should contact a recruiter. Not trying to be mean, just that they could give you the most accurate answers.

There are several types of full time duty with the guard. One is AGR, and you receive the same pay and allowances as an active duty soldier. You can be any rank. I was one as an E-3.
Next, there are technicians. These are soldiers who are full time, wear the uniform but are federal employees. They get paid on a different scale sometimes better, but mostly not as well. It is considered civil service, and you can "double dip" meaning you can get paid for your 15 days a year and your technician pay at the same time. You would be required to make up drills if you are scheduled for federal time or you could double dip--but only for 17 days a year.
There are also state employees with the guard. They get paid a state wage and benefits. Usually much lower than either AGR or Technician. Usually these jobs are for MP/security or Fire Dept. personnel.
I suggest if you get the opportunity to get an AGR job--take it. You get the same retirement package as well.
I was Security Forces in the Maine Air National Guard. I know some folks down at McGuire, they are good folks. Good luck.

Well national guard is a part time soldier thing. However they do have some full time soldiers they are called AGR's.
AGR's are generallly positions like the high level NCO's that run the unit on a day to day basis. To be an AGR first of all you must be a rank of E-5 or above. THere are very few of these type of people ... usually about 3 per Guard unit. They basically run the show in between weekends. AGR's get paid on the rate of a active duty soldier. It really has the best of alot of worlds. One thing thing to be aware about AGR's is that they are technically under 2 commands at once. They are under the command of the National Guard Brigade they belong to, but they are also under a seperate AGR command and are often transfered every few years.
My motor pool SFC was an AGR and after 6 years he got transfered to Hawaii to end his career. He loved it.
