It is supposed to represent the shape of King David's shield (or perhaps the emblem on it), but there is really no support for that claim in any early rabbinic literature. In fact, the symbol is so rare in early Jewish literature and artwork that art dealers suspect forgery if they find the symbol in early works.
Scholars such as Franz Rosenzweig have attributed deep theological significance to the symbol. For example, some note that the top triangle strives upward, toward G-d, while the lower triangle strives downward, toward the real world. Some note that the intertwining makes the triangles inseparable, like the Jewish people. Some say that the three sides represent the three types of Jews: Kohanim, Levites and Israel. While these theories are theologically interesting, they have little basis in historical fact.
The symbol of intertwined equilateral triangles is a common one in the Middle East and North Africa, and is thought to bring good luck. It appears occasionally in early Jewish artwork, but never as an exclusively Jewish symbol. The nearest thing to an "official" Jewish symbol at the time was the menorah.

Wow, it means a number things to me.....
It has come to symbolize my people. When I look at the Israeli flag, I cry sometimes because I feel so strongly about my people. It symbolizes the struggle of being Jewish and the power of the God Abraham, Isaac, Jacob to overcome. It is a grand source of pride for me as Jew. It makes me feel wonderful all over and inside.
Sometimes I listen to the Israeli national anthem, called "Hatikva", and it is like when some Americans hear the "Star-Spangled Banner", the American national anthem, and they feel this swell of emotion including great pride about being American, that is how I feel about being Jewish.

I have worn the Star of David for years now. It reminds us that God said for us to pray for Israel always. I am not a Jew by nationality but in Faith only. The Jews are God's chosen people ..many people do not realize that we have salvation because of them. So yes I wear the Star of David with PRIDE !!

its a religious symbol that was invented in the middle ages
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_of_David
Its nice and it resonates within me a sense of Jewish identity, but I find the Menorah a more powerful and meaningful symbol
