MY MOTHER HAS 2 OLD CATS, BOTH ARE ILL NOW AND AT LEAST THE 1 CAT MUST BE PUT OUT OF HIS MISERY, BUT THERE IS NO ONE THAT CAN HELP WITH THE COST OF EUTHANASIA THROUGH THE VET'S OFFICE AND CREAMATION / BURIAL . WE HAVE BEEN ASKING VETS BUT THEY WILL NOT TELL US BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T BE MAKING THIER $89.00 FOR EUTHANASIA ALONE, IF THEY DID!
SO, ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO TO EUTHANIZE A CAT IN A HUMANE AND PAINLESS MANNER? PLEASE HELP! THIS POOR CAT GOT TOO SICK TOO QUICK, HE IS SUFFERING. WE LIVE IN THE CITY AND HAVE NO LAND TO BURY HIM ON, NOR DO WE HAVE A SHOT-GUN, LIKE THE OLD DAYS, NOT TO MENTION SHOOTING YOUR OWN PET IS JUST TOO VIOLENT FOR ME!

YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT! WE HAVE ALREADY EXHAUSTED ALL OF THESE RESOURCES! NO ONE AND NO VET WILL DO IT WITHOUT ANY MONEY. AND YES, IT IS A FINANCIAL ISSUE. IF MY MOTHER HAD ANY MONEY AT ALL THAT'S WHAT SHE WOULD SPEND IT ON. SHE RECENTLY BECAME UNABLE TO WORK AND IS FIGHTING TO GET DISABILITY. THIS IS SOMETHING WE FEEL WE HAVE TO RESORT TO, AND ALL THESE VET CLINICS EVERYWHERE THAT WON'T HELP!

You really do not want to "handle" the problem personally ... it's something you'd have to live with the rest of your life. I believe that there are other options you could pursue ... please read on ...
Your mother as both a senior citizen and a disabled person qualifies for veterinary financial aid. Please check out the links below.
This site lists agencies in several States that provide financial aid to pet owners:
http://awnlc.net/FinancialHelp.htm
I also found these sites ...
If you live in CA :
http://www.petorphans.org/aboutus.shtml
If you live in NY :
http://www.nysave.org/savefaq.html#Q6
If you live in TX :
http://www.thevictoriaadvocate.com/428/story/9473.html
Even if none of the above sites provide assistance to the State you reside in, if I were you, I would still contact every one of them ... there's always the chance that one of them might know of a financial aid agency in your State.
Also, you might try some extensive browsing through the AARP site:
http://www.aarp.org/
I hope these links prove helpful to you. I wish you and your mom ... and your beloved cats, the very best of luck.

I can inderstand how the problem of humanely euthanising the cat is very painful.
Have you tried to contact an animal shelter in your area and discussed the problem with them.
I know at the shelter I am involved with we have low cost alternatives for those that are unable to pay for the full cost at a private vet clinic.
Good luck and I hope you resolve the problem before the you all and the cat go through too much pain and suffering.

First off Vets charge outrageous costs to put an animal to sleep. I once had a kitten that got an infection from a rusty fence and had to be put to sleep, i took him to the Humane Society which euthanizes pets free in some states. Mine was free of cost.. Just take the animal to the humane society and try to give him up , they will have the animal put to sleep with no cost to you, just call and check up on it

Try to take your cat to a animal shelter, sometimes they can make away, your provide you an avenue on where you can take your cat to be painlessly put to sleep or maybe they will do it for you. Tell them of your situation and possibly they may be able to help you much better.

Call your vet and get the price of putting the cat to sleep only. Call animal control and see if they will, since you have no money, dispose of the body for you. Sometimes, if you get the right person, they will.
Sorry for your loosing you cats.

Surely you have a charge card or a family member that will loan you the money to pay the vet. You could pay them back by doing a service for them like grocery shopping, clean their house, ironing etc. until the debt was paid back.

Dear Answers***
I am so horrified that the vet's over there, who have each made a medical swearing in, to protect and care for animals in need, and not their own pockets, cannot divulge the medical costs. I am sure your mom has been going to the vet regularly and has paid enough to the vet over the years to warrant a free euthanasia for the cats.
I have no idea who the "humane society" is, but there should be some organisation over there to STOP these vets "riding" there customers.
Do you get on very well with your local doctor. Report this incident to him/her and ask if they could do euthenasia on the cats.
In South Africa, we have a Medical Board that controls these type of happenings. We also have a programme on TV, where they will film a fictitious person, with a sick cat going to your specific vet, LIVE on air, and the viewers will RIP HIM TO PIECES!!!!! He wouldn't dare try that in our country.
Perhaps contact our TV stations and make them aware of the particular VETS.
But your moms cat needs your undivided attention now, please try your local doctor. This for me is so sad!! If I could get to you, I would be able to do it for you!!! I am so sorry that an educated, supposed to be professional being, has TAINTED the animal specialists in such an inhumane way.
love peppa-anne
p.s. this, unfortunately is going to worry me for ages. I'll try see what we can do in the future for people in your situation.

can you call your local humane society for help, maybe you can surrender your cat to them and they can painlessly euthanize it. DO NOT do it on your own...there is no way that will not cause the cat pain.

contact your local humane society. i would hope that they could help you. other than that, i would say you are out of luck. wherever the cat is put to sleep, they usually can take care of the remains for you.
(assuming that your mother doesn't have the money to put the cat to sleep, which is very understandable)
