I had to get worm pills from my vet and my dog is a doberman,if your dog is full grown she is probably about the same size as mine. It was a one time dosage of 5 pills and it only cost me $20.00. It took care of the problem right away. You can't afford $20.00?Sorry to say if you can't afford that small price, I hope and pray nothing serious happens to your dog. I own dobermans ,one ended up with cancer and the other has a heart problem, all in all I have spent thousands of $$$$ in vet bills. I understand not everyone has the finances to put out this kind of $$$,but when anyone takes on the responsibility of a pet they should know that the costs of having this pet is more than just feeding it. See if your vet will let you make payments. I wish you all the best with your dog.

If you have some sort of disability or age is a factor, there are organizations that sometimes help a person with basic dog health needs like shots, worming and heartworm preventative medication. I don't know where you live but a place to inquire about this would be the nearest SPCA or Humane Society. If nothing else they may be able to refer you to where low cost preventatives and treatments are available.
Your dog has probably had worms for some time if you are seeing them. Because of this, it would not be unusual for a vet to worm the dog and then give a follow up worming in a few weeks. It's very important that your dog gets a timely follow up as recommended by the vet to prevent re-infestation.
Someone mentioned what tape worms look like and that it needs a different medication and that is true. GL with your dog. I'd definitely go the SPCA route for references.

You can't buy a cheap wormer. the reason is because the cheap wormers only kill 1 or 2 types of worms. The only way you can tell the type of worm is by taking it to the vet for a lab test ($15). Otherwise, you need to get a wormer that will kill a wide range of worms.......call your vet and tell them to write you a script for drontal. It is around 30 or so and kills all the worms. You could also get safeguard over the counter at wal mart, but since you have a big dog, it is cheaper to buy drontal than over the counter meds.

Just ask a friend for money. Otherwise, please find a new home for the dog. If you can't afford $30 for deworming meds, then you can't afford wellness check ups or vaccinations, which means you can't afford to have the dog. Also, if you aren't getting your dog medical care (drontal, rabie vaccinations, etc.), that is animal cruelty and illegal, which will result in criminal charges.

Are you seeing worms? Do they look like rice? If so its probably tapeworms..If she isnt on Heartworm preventive and if its any other kind of worm she must not be because that generly keeps them down then be prepared to watch her get sick..If she has hooks she will start pooping blood before long because they will be eating all in her intestines..You can probably bring a stool sample(fresh) to the Vet and tell him her weight and he can just sell you what you need..most will but you dont need to treat until you know WHAT to treat for.You need a Vet! Its part of owning a dog...and its the Cheap part!

You should find a better home for your dog. I know you love her or else you wouldn't have spent the time to ask a question here, but she needs a home and a family that can provide for her if she gets sick. And worms is a small and common problem - what if something really serious happens like she gets run over? How are you going to pay for that?

Thats why I dont have any animals even though I really really REALLY want one. I'd have enough money for food and things, I just wouldn't have the money to pay for one if it gets sick.

If you keep her, then PLEASE be a responsible pet owner and make sure she is spayed. (your dog might already be fixed, so ignore this next part if she is)
You DEFINITELY dont deserve to be a pet owner if you dont neuter your animals.

I sympathize inclusive of your financial straits, yet... you haven't any longer have been given a decision, right here. once you took the dogs into your place, you took duty for his care, which contains scientific therapy. placed the invoice on a credit card, set up a value plan, practice for that credit card that's meant for scientific/vet expenses, borrow the money... Come on. Heartworm an infection is a *severe* problem; why do you think of each and every dogs proprietor makes use of preventative meds? in case you may no longer or won't get the money... you will desire to teach the adverse dogs over to a rescue or no-kill look after so he can get the care he needs. it relatively is merciless and abusive to refuse him therapy. And, please, do no longer hear to "Jingle-Hamster-in spite of"'s advice approximately residing house-remedies. Hamster-boy (or woman) is making yet yet another irresponsible and ill-recommended advice... Your dogs needs a vet!!! stable success

Depending on where you live, there could be animal shelters or aspca that would help you and your dog incase of a financial problem. you can also get many types of worm medicine. you need to be careful as to which type the dog has or the medicine could have no effect or even adverse effects. So my best bet would be to go to an animal shelter or a free animal clinic. and then go to a store and look for treatments according to what they say. I hope your dog gets better.

HOW do you know she just got worms? HOW do you decide that? You should not have a dog if you cannot financially provide for it. She can die from worms.

The person before me told you that her Vet said the over the counter wormers were just as good as the Vets dewormers. I don't believe her or she has a quack for a Vet.

The stuff you buy over the counter is not good. It can break off pieces of the worm and leave pieces inside your dog. The ONLY way to tell WHAT type of worms your dog has and WHICH medication to give your dog is to perform a fecal matter test. The cost of that is about $15.00 and tells your Vet everything he/she needs to know to treat your dog effectively.

It is not that expensive to treat. Does your dog get heartworm medication monthly? How about Frontline for fleas/ticks? My two dogs get those meds every month of the year. It protects them and keeps them healthy.

Having a dog is much like having a child. If it can't afford it or take care of it properly, then don't have one. It is abuse when you do not take care of them. HOW are you going to rid your dog of worms? HOW do you know what kind and HOW severe they are?

I suggest feeding her something really salty. Popcorn in a bag for instance. Or make salt water and pour it over her food. I guarentee the salt will make the worms come out of your dog. I had the same problem as you, years ago and didn't have the money for treatmeant and I discovered that salt will get rid of the worms very quickly. You can watch the stools to see that she is getting rid of the worms this way. This is a very inexpensive way.

Some vets do payment plans. You could always try that as well.

It may be tough, but if it's expensive to treat, maybe you should just surrender your dog.
