I am just interested to see what peoples doctors tell them when they perscribe the medication. I know someone who is on it right now, they have been on it for a week and are on 600mg a day. They have been taking one in the morning and it totally makes them like out of this world. They can not speak clearly, you can not understand them and they fall asleep while they are talking to you. She has almost burnt the house down 5 times since she has been at my house because she has fallen asleep with a cigarette in her mouth or hand. I was under the impression it was for night time use only. Please help!!! She is driving me nuts!!

I only took it at night and I was only on 25mg for bipolar. It knocked me completely out. Some nights I would sleep completely through and miss work in the morning. She should take it and go straight to bed, if that dosage is making her feel so tired maybe she should go to her doctor and see if he can lower her dose and maybe she can still get the full benefit of the medicine.

Good luck!

seroquel is a brand name of the medication. Its actual generic name is quetiapine.

Quetiapine (seroquel) is an antipsychotic drug. It is used for psychotic conditions like: schizoprenia, acute manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder.

For her condition, taking about 600mg, if it is prescribed by dr. is fine. This is because, usually dr. will try to titrate the dose starting from lower dose to a higher dose. The dose would have to depend on clinical response and tolerability of the patient herself. Dose maybe adjusted within the range of 150-750mg.

Also, the reason why she may fall asleep is because:
Quetiapine (seroquel) has side effects like dizziness, drowsiness and feel sleepy and blackout. Thus, she fell asleep might be due to seroquel's side effect.

My daughter used to take Seroquel. She was prescirbed it for insomnia, therefore told to take it right before bed. Knocked her right out!I do believe it is supposed to only be taken at night.

***I just want to add that 600mg. is a very high dose. You might want to have her check that this is the right does.

well this med will make you very sleepy and spacy so my friend has been told to take it at nighttime...her md was wrong about another drug..telling her to take it in the am but she got horrible sleepiness and spacieness..the md kept insisting that am was right but my friend slowly switched it to pm dosing, and she's much better and able to function...if her md insists on am dosing, you might try a pm timetable..just change slowly...move the time ahead maybe two hours later each day for a week, good luck

Are you sure about that dose? It sounds awfully high.

Check out this site for some info on it:

There are links to the manufacturer and some info on uses.

And there talk board about it:

Ask your question there. Your more apt to get a more useful response than here on Y/A.

It is prescribed for sleep so it should only be taken at bedtime and only if you are able to get a full 8 hours sleep.. Tell your friend it is not safe to take it during the day if she's not planning on sleeping.
