I am 26 and I have a 14 year old cousin that is going to be moving in with me because her parents dont want her in the home any more. I want to become her legal guardian and could use some advice on the procedure I need to follow to do this.

Also could use some input on how long it takes and any other needed information.

I am doing same in WA for my Mom. It is taking months with an Attorney specializing in the field. Be Patient and my regards for taking on the responsibility. Lots of free info at state gov site, more free advice with their Dept of Children and Families (or whatever it is called there). Also, Legal Aid can give you leads and always everywhere you can start with "211", the national number for United Way. I always start there. They have the best leads of all. If it is urgent, be sure to tell advisers that.
