I do not believe in the Da Vinci code at all. I have compared some of the false sayings in it with things from the Bible and it is completely different, as I know the Bible to be the truth.

As Dan Brown states, his book is a fiction book based on some theories some historians share. It's not a matter of believing or not, the key word here is fiction.

The conspiracy theory that he bases his book on is not his .. it was discussed in an earlier book, Holy Blood Holy Grail.

The theory of a blood line is an old one, and some evidence does support the theory, but it can't be defined as fact. Neither can the christian theories that most christians take as fact.

As Ian Mckellan, the actor who played Sir Leigh Teabing in the movie, stated during an interview:

"I'm not sure why the christian church has so many problems with this theory. I mean, if Jesus were married and had a child, at least that proves he's not homosexual. They should be thrilled."

Im an atheist, and I loved the book. However I don't really take it that seriously. I dont really belive it is true or anything like that, I just enjoyed reading the story. By the way, why was there such a big arguement over this book? I mean, why do some people complain that the author is wrong and is teaching lies even though the book is labled "fiction"? KNOW THIS, THE BOOK IS NOT TRYING TO TEACH YOU OR CONVINCE YOU THAT JESUS WAS MARRIED, IT IS JUST TELLING THOSE THINGS FOR THE STORY, STOP MAKING IT SEEM LIKE IT IS SUCH A BIG DEAL.

The DiVinci Code is a fiction novel. Like most authors, Dan Brown had a thought of "What if........." and took the idea and ran with it. There has been a lot of speculation about if there is any basis in fact about this book. I read it as a work of fiction by a very imaginative author as I read all works of fiction. I read a lot of Dean Koontz and Stephen King for entertainment not for trying to find any real answers about life. I read the Dan Brown books Angels and Demons and The DiVinci Code with the same mind set. They are entertaining fiction novels and have no basis in fact.

Fiction, did you look at the book/credits? However, in terms of fiction, there are some neat ideas... the idea that the religion touted by millions plus the Pope, Mormon prophet, baptists, lutherans, etc., was founded on a different prophetic idea and that women had a much more important role than mysoginist theists would allow, was really a quite fascinating concept. Plus it was a great "indian jones" kinda adventure.

Da Vinci Code is another attempt to create new theories and interpretations on the bible and jesus' life. How can we believe in it when it has no proof. The backbone of this story is it's fiction. How can fiction prove their supposed truth. It makes no sense.

The novel "The DaVinci Code" is a made-up story. It's ideas are based on stories that were made up about Jesus. But the book and movie are causing many people to look into the true story, so that will be good in the long run.

I am a Christian...
The DaVinci Code plays on false, fictional accounts - such as Jesus having a romantic relationship with Mary Magdalene, having children, etc.
The Christian belief is that Jesus was God himself incarnate, here to give his life as payment for us to have eternal life. To say that he had the needs of a man like you and I, had a wife, etc, is directly contrary to who he is and the essential perspective and respect for belief in him.
Just as troubling is the statistic that 13 - 18% of people believe this because of the book - it points our the lack of spirtual knowledge/education, and explains alot culturally.
Dan Brown has said that the book is fictional - but a spiritually hungry and unknowledgable public finds it contrary and easy to assume and it becomes popular, and a huge money maker.
