Why didnt Silverchair become huge in the States? Is it because of Daniels (lead singer) health issues and goinginto isolation? I just cant get enough of there music and they make me want to move to Aus...speaking of, any Aussies reading this? I was wondering how Silverchair has effected Aus., Do they have small shows there? Do you ever just see them around? Also what is Aus. culture like? I have a friend from there and I think she is great but I dont know much about the culture.
Thanks!

Saw one of the blokes from Silverchair on the TV the other day. He said he was writing and playing. Tell you the truth, Silverchair were known here but didn't have that much effect on things.

Aus culture includes Nobel prize winning novelists and scientists, AC/DC, world famous painters and movie makers, jazz, C & W, light classics, easy listening, drag queens and drag racing , TV soaps, goths, Mythbusters, battle re-enactors, ABBA fans, Rotarians, boozed and pilled-up heavy metal freaks and sports fans. Some of these are the same people.

In Australia we have a thing called tall poppy syndrome...if anybody gets too big for their boots or thinks they are good (I think you call them a playa?) they get cut back down too size. So Silverchair never made it cause they were compared to Nirvana and called rip offs.... Daniel Johns has a small side project called the dissociatives. The others also have other projects. Daniel is also working on his annorexia.

It has been a long long time since silverchair did small shows in Australia. These days they only seem to play big festivals and big headlining gigs (stadium ones mainly), but even then they don't play very often.

Silverchair was HUGE in North America....but that was close to 10 years ago now. They're not big here anymore because they haven't released any new music in years...or at least I haven't come across any new stuff.
