sounds right for a yorkie. the peeing thing is usually from excitement/nerves and this usually gets better with age. Neutering helps with wandering and agression, and sometimes helps them calm down, too. get him neutered.

I think what they are assuming is that his peeing is marking behavior. A neuter often (but not always) ends this if the dog is young enough. If it has become a habit, neutering won't stop it. Sometimes a dog pees a lot because of a medical condition. has your vet ruled this out? Also, terriers are naturally energetic and wild. A neuter might help but again, don't count on it. They generally work best at calming down females (the reason many get fat afterwards unless they are basically starved). I'm not saying don't do it - there are many good reasons for having this procedure done - just don't assume it will help. What I can suggest is a lot of exercise and obedience training. A tired dog is a good (and generally a healthy) dog. Obedience training gives you more control over him so the wildness can be managed. As for peeing, even after you clean it up, he (and other dogs) can still smell it unless you use enzymes. If he smells it, he'll mark there again. You might try crate training since this might partly be insufficient potty training. Its too much to go into here but you should be able to find the information you need from a web search or from your veterinarian. I wish you good luck - training is much easier then retraining.

Your yorkie is a normal male yorkie. Yorkie's are notorious for housebreaking problems. I had a female and she was spayed but she would pee in the house. I would suggest neutering your little dog. If anything, it will keep him healthier in the long run, avoiding health problems that can be typical of intact males. He should calm down somewhat after being neutered. I can't guarantee that the urination will slow down. Small dogs normally pee more than larger dogs due to their bladder being so tiny.
Yorkie's tend to be rather high-strung. I'd say your Yorkie is a true Yorkie, through and through.

Best to you and your little dog.

I am not sure how much he should weigh.

Neutering him will keep him from trying to run when he smells other girls across the city that are in heat. It will have nothing to do with his urination in any way. Tera_duke must be thinking of cats. Cats spray, dogs do not spray. They lift their legs and are capable of urinating on furniture and walls if they choose to do so.

It will calm him down. They don't have all those raging hormones after the surgery. BUT, it doesn't happen over night. It will take a couple months before he shows any difference in behavior.

It is just much healthier for the dog. Just don't expect any miracles.

his size is very normal. i have a yorkie that is 5 pounds. i don't know how long he is though. if you neutered him he would calm down and probably stop peeing all over the place..

He sounds tiny...Neutering will calm him down ALOT but it will take a month or so.It will also keep him from wandering if he ever gets out..It sometimes helps with the male marking at his age it should. My dogs are fixed and I use to have unalterd animals...Spayed and neutered dogs make MUCH better pets I'll never have nothing that isnt fixed again..It also prevents him from getting testicular cancer

Yes your dog would stop peeing and the weight is normal. Take him to the vet and get him checked out, then if you still want to neuter him go on ahead.

Tea cups only get like 3-4 lbs. The nuetering will help spraying, which may be what he is doing when he is peeing. As far as calming him down it sounds like he needs some training. Nuetering helps w/ aggression, not so sure about energy levels.

I have a dog, it's a chocolate lab. When I nuetered or spayed she calmed down but after they heal, they get their energy back but not as much. Also, my dog was small before she was neutered or spayed and she got bigger.

dogs DO mark their area much like cats!! fixing him will help stop it some!! yes, it calm them from being hyper too! but most important, it keeps them healthier then if they are not fixed!!!! just to worn you, some males right after getting fixed, may have problems with him trying to ride people! mine did, never did it before and after 1 week he never did it again!! vet. said it was the sudden hormone change!!!
