I'm using Total Video Converter 2.52. I just noticed that every time i convert an rmvb file to another format, specifically .avi, the output file is usually larger in size (it's almost double compared to the original size). Is there a way to avoid this? Does it have something to do with the video conversion software that i'm using?

RM is more efficient in compressing certain types of data, such as anime and low-res videos, than most AVI codecs. RMVB is even more efficient due to its variable-bitrate architecture.

You can try converting some of the more exotic codecs after a bit of filtering, as compression efficiency varies from codec to codec and from different types of data. Only experimentation will get you answers.

rmvb uses a newer and better compression algorithm than avi (which is part of the reason avi is dying out as a common file type).

I doubt you'll do much better with other converters but you could try some others and test it if you have the time and energy.
