I'm fresh out of high school at 19 years old. I've decided that attending a 4 year university would be too difficult at this point in my life and I want to join a branch of the military. Preferably I do not want to be stationed on or around Iraq, because I don't exactly agree with everything going on over there, although I understand there are no guarantees. I've heard there are different rankings in terms of quality of life, and I'm looking for everyones opinion on this issue. Thanks a lot in advance, Garrett.

For better quality of life, go Air Force. You don't get stuck on a base that can be sunk out from under you and you have more job openings.

You should probably know, any branch you choose has just as much of a risk of you being deployed to Iraq as another. Some just have longer deployments than others. Air Force is extending theirs to 6 month tours, Army is extending to 18 month tours, Navy I think is around 4-6 months but you are on a boat for months on end with them anyway, and the Marines are still pulling 12 month tours. You will have to ultimately decide whether or not being deployed is going to bother you that much. I can tell you this much, I would much rather spend my time and find out what is really going on there, than be sitting around hearing several different sides. That way I would serve my country and also find out the truth.

Wait what am I talking about? I am going to Iraq, nevermind. Trust me it's not that big of a deal, because unless you are Security Forces or a Fighter Pilot then you will probably not see any action while deployed in the Air Force.

Go Air Force, it offers jobs that are related to civilian life. It's where I learned my skilled trade which I'm employed with to this day.
I was in Civil Engineering Squadron (CES) in the Air Conditioning shop.
As for duty assignments, well it's a gamble you won't go to Iraq, but you don't have to worry about being out in the field with a gun.

pass into the army that's way less confusing to get into than the Air rigidity. They commute the main. you will desire to be caught on a deliver a rather good variety of the time. you're in success because of the fact none of those branches of the protection rigidity are at the instant utilising the stop Loss clause to maintain human beings in previous their time. The military's boot camp is 9 weeks. Air rigidity, we in the army call it the chair rigidity because of the fact no longer too plenty for actual interest and visual attraction is under pressure. they're the main like the civilian international so which you will like them because of the fact they're incredibly lax. they do no longer call it boot camp, that's BMT (straightforward protection rigidity coaching) which lasts 8.5 weeks in spite of the undeniable fact that it was 6.5. because of the fact you in effortless terms prefer to offer 3 years then i anticipate you do no longer care that they have got the worst promoting music out of all branches, yet a minimum of you get to stay comfortably - you get your individual dorm type room and bathing room. : ) Do your 3 years and confirm that the protection rigidity pays for each thing (college, scientific, dental, coverage, automobile) earlier you get out or you will desire to finally end up enlisting back to get exhilaration from all those perks. it relatively is no longer uncommon to experience a nostalgia for the protection rigidity as quickly as you're out, yet once you're performed and financially take care of then you definately would be ok.

Air force if you want a skill you can use in the public sector! The navy is close though as they have aircraft plus ships! Lot of job opportunities! But in the Air Force you don't have to swab decks!

air force...i think the most you would have to do is fly things over to iraq to the troops. also, they pay a lot of money, and the Montgomery G.I. Bill program is really good if you want to study while you are there. plus, there are all kinds of awsome things you can do there, like be a pilot, build planes, do mechanical things, and a lot more. im pretty sure you dont have to go into battle in iraq, just transport things over.

The bottom line in the answer to your question is ,,,,, At this particular point in time ,,,,, STAY OUT OF THE MILITARY ,,,, Especially now with this present administration because these idiots will do what they deem necessary in order to gain what they want no matter what the cost and that includes your life ,,,, They lost 98 people during the month of October ,,,, And yes I know that's not necessarily the point here but believe me ,,,, It doesn't matter what branch of the armed forces you belong to ,,,, If they see it necessary to involve you to make their money then THEY WILL DO IT and will allow you no say so what so ever ,,,, To the corporate/political sector all people in the service of the United States is expendable ,,,, That has been their policy every since Korea ,,,, Viet Nam is a good example of this ,,,, Millions if not billions were made off that war and the corporate/political sector raked in allot of money and the proceeds went right into their pockets ,,,,, They thought the situation was very cost effective ,,,, But what that war really cost the American people was 58,326 American lives ,,,,,, and thousands wounded or mamed for the rest of their lives ,,,, and all for a war we should have stayed out of ,,,,,, There was absolutely no threat to America from Viet Nam what so ever ,,,,, Iraq poses no threat to America either and never has and the whole world is still waiting to see these so called weapons of mass destruction ,,,, But the Bush boys which is the corportate/political sector twisted what Osamma Bin Laden did to us and went in a totally different direction ,,,,, Iraq has turned into another Viet Nam and people recognized this fact a long time ago ,,,, Don't fool yourself ,,,, If you are in the military then they can come up with any reason they need to and send you where they want ,,,, Every since Korea the corportate/plitical sector has used the American people as a resource to draw from every time they needed cannon fodder ,,,,, They are doing it today ,,,,, right now with this thing in Iraq ,,,,, Ever wonder what they'd do if Americans all of a sudden stopped having babies ,,,,It's for sure they won't send their own children ,,,, Bush is a very good example of that ,,,, He got out of going to Viet Nam some how when it was his turn to serve ,,,, In fact his whole military career is shady ,,,, It's always easy to be brave when you command from the rear where they keep the gear ,,,, He was too much of a coward when it was his turn to serve but if you notice ,,, He's completely ready to send some one else now that he has the power to do so ,,,,, The Republicans are against abortion ,,, which is commendable if that were the only reason,,,,, but what the people don't know is the real reason behind it ,,,, In order to have a war you have to have people ,,,,, to have people you have to have babies ,,,,, The corporate/politial sector will always be against abortion because of that ,,,,They will always want a crop of babies or young people at hand to draw from for some future lucrative war some where so abortion is counter productive and interferes with their agenda ,,,,,They are using the American people as a resource to draw on any time they see a lucrative situation arrise ,,,,, I don't care what branch of the service you join or what contract you sign ,,,, They have the power to over rule it if they need you as connon fodder ,,,, If you do choose to join and wind up in a worst case scenerio ,,,, I hope you remember this answer and advise ,,,, you think attending a university would be too difficult at this point in your life ,,,, Well ,,, Bellieve me ,,,, It would be a walk in the park compared to what you could walk into by joining the military at this point in your life ,,,, Which would you rather have to deal with in your life ,,,,, Books or bombs ,,,,, I was your age when I enlisted ,,,,, I went to Viet Nam as a 19 year old kid and came back as a very old 24 year old wreck ,,,, I was one of those perverts ,, war monger and baby killers and low life slime ball scum sucking maggots that they spit at and was the target for their rocks and garbage ,,,, Thank God that the trend today is to honor those who served ,,,,, ?? Yoda said this ,,,,,(served three years and two months as a special forces operative in Viet Nam ) But that's another saga in the history of this country ,,,,,
