He agrees however i cant find anything online about exactly how it works, do you just go and sign papers and thats it? I know how a tradional Church wedding is, and all the steps, but im clueless with The justice of Peace. How much is costs and i know i need a lisence for marriage prior, but other than that, im clueless. Does anyone know what will happen from start to end.. (i.e. First you will do this) Please help! (im in NJ, usa by the way)

im from nj and i was married (now divorced) in egg harbor township (south jersey)... anyway, you need to pay for the marriage license before hand, and thats about $5, you also need two witnesses that have known the both of you for at least 2 years, you sign some papers that your not related, who your parents are, where you live etc. nothing major, then you select the date that you want, and you get married on that day.
i dont know how much it costs because me and my ex hubby, we just went there got married by the mayor, neither he or the mayors secretary ever said anything to us about a price, which was weird, and i don't know why, and i didn't stay around to ask lol... (my mom and stepdad where married by the same exact mayor lol... and they paid him)... but anyway we didn't pay a penny to get married... we did pay for a divorce though but thats another story lol..
anywho the mayor will say "we are here today to join" "grooms name" and "brides name" on this day of_________ 2006/2007 " and some other stuff....... if anyone objects to this marriage speak now or forever hold your peace..... then you exchange rings, and the mayor will ask do you "grooms name" promise to love "brides name" to have to hold to cherish her through sickness and health til death do you part forever... and vice versa... i now pronounce you husband and wife, or mr. and mrs. ________
anyway something to that effect... just like you see them say on tv... its a standard marriage saying or whatever you call it... its really simple and it lasts 3 minutes or less literally!! then your married!! good luck don't stress your self out cause its seriously only about 3 minutes long, a few papers, a few id's, birth cirtificate etc. and your done. good luck again :)

No matter who marries you, you & your intended will have to go get the marriage license. Some places have a waiting period to get your license; and some have you wait a few days to marry after you receive your license.

If you use a judge or JP you will need to make an appointment with them. You will have a very short legal worded ceremony; something like , "We are here to meet the requirements of the state.....You will be asked if you consent to marriage, say vows, exchange rings & be pronounced. It will be under 10 minutes. Then you will pay them.

Should you decide you'd like something a bit more personal hire an officiant. They can do a civil ceremony & some can even do religious or some other type as well.

Type in your search engine your city, state, & wedding officiant. You should have your choice of a few. Or you can go here:

I have been a witness at a JP wedding. In my town the JP was a barber. My friend was getting married he just contacted the JP and made an appointment then we went there, he gave him the marrage license and after he finished with the man in the chair he married them. There was a guy waiting to get his haircut and when asked, he didn't mind at all waiting and being signed in as a witness.

So Just contact your local JP and set the date!

Good Luck !!

In KY you get a license at the county clerks office and then go to the judge executive. Here he will perform the marriage and get it witnessed by two people and you are married. You can give him something if you wish but It doesn't cost anything. My wife and I witnessed a couples wedding and this was the way it happened.

I was married by a JP - got the license, set the appointment and showed up at the courthouse. Fees will vary - I paid $65. for the licence and $50. for the JP

Call the city hall in your town, they can give you the phone number or the info! You say the vows in an office and sign the paper then you are done. You may have to have a blood test first be sure and ask about this!

A JP still must have you take an oath for a wedding. You still must have the license and what the cost is now I wouldn't have a clue.
