Molly was full term and her mother did everything right in the pregnancy. Two weeks ago an ultrasound determined she was a very large baby--almost 9 pounds. Her doctor decided not to a C section and wait for things to progress naturally. A few times during the two weeks the baby was not moving and she went into the doctors office to make sure things were okay. Shyeh was in labor for twenty hours before the baby was taken by c section. The baby has a large red bruise on her head and started to have seizures of her left arm and shoulder. She has been transferred to Worcester NIC unit. the baby is on an intravenous drip of fenabarbitol. A CAT scan tonight showed a problem on the right side of the brain--a smalll area either missing, swollen, or crushed. Tomorrow there will be a EEG and MRI by the Neurologist. They also said she could have had a small stroke. Any ideas would be appreciated. Everyone is upset. Anyone seen this problem? Thank you.

You need to get to pediatricians and ask them for advice...I am sorry to hear that...but as much as I know ..children are more likely to outgrow any type of seizure...I know a little boy who had a stroke at age of 3. he was left side paralyzed but completely recovered in 5 years, now he is happy healthy 8 years old....
The skull is not even developed yet, baby bones are very soft. I don't think that something is severely damaged.
Just stay strong and pray until everything is clear. Even though there is something there, love that is in your family and concern that you all have will help this baby live happily and grow healthy.

Medicine today is amazing, there will be good doctors who will know what to do....

Oh, I'll pray for your baby...I do know one child who they determined had a stroke in vitro but he's about 6 know and is just fine. I'm sure when the swelling subsided the baby will improve. It's hard when they are so young because they just mostly sleep anyway. The cells are multiplying fast and you can tell more later when she starts to see and coo. In the meantime don't think of the worst case senario...be positive for your daughter's sake who I am sure is very worried about this now. It is the best you can do for now. Good luck.

Good luck, sounds to me that her OB made a MaJOR mistake not going with a Csection, right now you have to put the problem in the hands of the doctors and pray to God that these doctors do the right things.

I have no idea what is wrong with her.It is time to be with the mother and father when they question the doctor so you can find out what is going on.I wish her well and will pray for her.
