I'm Catholic. I was just wondering why so many people see it as "wrong". I do not personally believe there is anything wrong with it, obviously, because I am Catholic.

First of all, popular and old do not equate with correct. Many religions like Hinduism, etc. are much older than the Jewish faith which preceded Christianity.
Bible believing Christians really need to take a close look at Matthew 7:21-27. According to Jesus, there will be a lot of religious people that believe in and work for Jesus that will not be allowed into Heaven. ONLY the people that follow what the Bible teaches will be going to Heaven -- these are Jesus' thoughts not something I just made up or feel in my heart.

It is very comforting to be a part of something that has been established for such a long time. Membership is maintained simply by increases in the family, having babies baptised, and then those ones growing up and again increasing the family. There is no requirement to have an understanding of the Bible. Simple belief in what the Priest says is deemed sufficient.
The problem is that traditional teaching has crept into the religion and is maintained through the theological colleges. But when these teachings are compared to what the Bible says, they do not agree. In this respect, the religion has "gone wrong". It has become part of 'false religion', or as the Bible calls it...Babylon the Great, and Revelation warns people to " GET OUT OF HER". REVELATION 18;4.
Points to ponder; The Trinity is not supported by the Bible.
It claims Jesus to be Almighty God himself and yet Jesus, in the book of John, repeatedly states that he is the lesser of the two.
The Holy Spirit, God's power, is made a personality and made equal to God. Many ideas held for long periods of time, such as "LIMBO", have recently been altered. The teaching of 'Eternal Hellfire' has held people through fear. And yet Revelation states that Hades [ Hell] will be cast into the lake of fire. A confusion of a place being cast into a situation or another place. Very confusing. And the final all over explanation that " it is all a mystery", when in fact God has had the Bible kept safe for us to learn from it.

Popularity means nothing. At Matt. 7:13, 14 and 21-23, Jesus said that only a minority of professed Christians will get life everlasting. Is your religion true or false? Let's see how it measures up in the light of the Bible.
Catholicism observes Christmas, Easter, and Halloween although it is common knowledge that those holidays are of pagan origin.
Catholics priests and the Pope are referred to as Father, even though Jesus said to call no man your father (in a religious sense).
Catholics go to war. But Jesus told his followers to live their enemies.
Instead of expelling priests who molest children, the Church moves such offenders from parish to parish.
Catholicism uses images in their worship, although the Bible condemns it.
Catholicism tolerates homosexuality, although the Bible condemns such a practice.
The Catholic Church believes in the unscriptural trinity, even though its own reference books say that the trinity is NOT a Bible teaching.
The Catholic Church does not have the truth. They are not true Christians. The same applies to other religions that do not go by the Bible.

Religion was never designed to be popular. It was designed by man to embrace (hopefully) the spirituality that Jesus handed down. However since you bring it up...why would it not be popular when you have a man in the lead who can change doctrine to suit the times rather than staying true to the scripture as it was given. Isn't that sort of like a build a bear religious faith? Or a religion buffet of sorts? Not to belittle you because I think if you have strong faith in something then you should have a right to have your opinions respected. However, this is simply what I have come to see as what most others who are opposed to Catholicism use as their argument against it.

When u are saying that you are catholic too! how can u say Catholocism is so wrong? That means u have less knowledge about the truth.
First study 'Bible' . And u will find the history of catholocism from bigning.
Give time to Jesus everyday and u will definatly get Holy Spirit power to lead your daily life. Get knowledge of catholocism from elders in christ. U will definatly get your answer. 'What is wrong & what is right?' my dear.

Because it's the oldest christian denomination that is why it is the most popular religion in terms of numbers. It's not because the numbers are higher that they are right.
Many people do not like to search religion and it's history. Surely not what the opponents of their faith say and their arguments. If you start venturing in this direction, I'm sure questions will rise and distance will create from you and the catholic church.

First of all....Bless you my sister.
I was raised Catholic and now am born again. When one gets baptized with the spirit of God, the spirit reveals alot of truth. Some truths I had revealed to me were about Catholicism, and why I should not go back. This was not from someone else, but from the spirit and the heart. No human influenced this decision.
Catholicism has alot of rituals, prayers to saints, prayers to Mary, calling a priest "father", confessions of sins to a human/not to God and many other non Biblical ceremonies. When Jesus was on earth he criticized the Pharisees, who thought they were OK because they went to church/synagogue and did all the rituals and ceremonies, also had a big structured system and alot of financial donations made. Sounds like Catholicism.
Please dont take this personally, it is a broad spectrum view about Catholicism, I think your heart is great and sweet for being here and asking this. Many Catholics are real sweeties, but are in a pretty lousy system unknowingly.
I encourage you to read the Bible...carry a bible into church and talk to others there about it....most of them never have or will read it. Tells me they are going to soothe their conscience. If you get touched by the spirit of God, you will see many things spiritually you never have.
One last thing, PLEASE read John chapter 3. Jesus says if you are not born again of water and of spirit, you are not guarenteed entry into the Kingdom of God.

Because it is the scarlet whore riding atop the mythical beast of armaggedon!! Catholicism has raped, pillaged murdrered and tortured everyone done through the ages that didn't agree with them. They hide and persecute and destroy any evidence of the bible that doesn't support their beliefs, and what they believe in is this ===money=== not god. They are the church that helps the antichrist rise to power in the last days. They are the whore of babylon!!! First of all you don't need a priest to be the go between for you and god, He hears you!!! All you need is to read the bible, Well, what is left of it after the catholics got thru with it anyways. The catholic church is singlehandedly responsible for the systematic oppression of women, the suppression of science and the suppression of the real truth that Christ came to this world to bring to all of us. Anything that they deem not empowering to their beliefs, they suppress!!! Read Revelations people!!! or go to the tomorrows world website and learn the truth for yourself. Besides catholicism worships dead people, and turns them into saints, the only one you are supposed to worship is God. I Am The Alpha And The Omega, you will have no other Gods before me!. Its not "wrong", no religion can be wrong. Catholicism is so popular due to the influence of Spain and Portugal when they colonized middle and South America. It is easily the most prevalent religion in those 2 areas, and it has always had strength in European countries. I think Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal are still definitely strong Catholic countries. It is #2 I think in the states to Protestants, but I'm not sure.

Catholicism has been around for so long that it has been inbred into many people's cultures. There are many good Catholic people, the Church doctrines have been corrupted over the centuries and now to have the Church say that you can still be saved without believing that Jesus is the Son of God...that's going too far.
