Yes, but by how much depends on your frame. Some people have big frames (big boned) while others are small framed (thin wrists, etc.). You can find weight to height charts that take frame size into consideration in many medical offices, and i'm sure there are some on the internet.
Even if you are big-framed, at 5'8", I would have to guess that you are at least 15-20 pounds over-weight, unless you are particularly muscular..

It would help to know if you are a man or a woman. Either way that could be a healthy weight for you depending on a number of things. BMI - body mass index - will tell you how much of that weight is fat and will indicate more clearly if you need to lose. If you work out regularly and a lot of the weight is muscle you may be ok. The best indicator I found is how do you feel? Do you feel overweight? Are you uncomfortable in your own skin? Each individuals body has it's own "set point" if you will for weight. The body knows more than we do what it should weigh. 187 may be ok on you and not ok on your 5'8" neighbor. If you are eating a healthy diet and doing at least moderate exercise your body will find it's natural weight.

on the scale of underweight - obese, you are on the high end of overweight - meaning that you are about 5 or so pounds away from being clinically obese. What should you do? eat better, exercise at least 3 times a week, and foster a healthier lifestyle. If none of that works, contact your doctor.

I heard on my favorite afternoon talk show that it's not really the pounds you should be worried about. Everyone's body frame is different, so we carry our weight differently. The Dr on the panel said you should be worried about your waste line. Women should be under 32 inches, men under 35. The belly fat we carry around is by far the most dangerous you can have, in his opinion. He suggested walking, cardio and weights. He said people with more muscle burn more calories.

Search online for a BMI index. When you type in your height and weight it will tell you how many pounds you are over.

Skip waiting suites. When you have an scheduled appointment, check in and then go out for a walk until the actual receptionist phones you.

Yes you are. The formula for losing weight is very easy. Cut calories and exercise. If you burn more calories than you consume, your body will burn fat instead of storing fat.
