In the attempt to get closer to my Eastern European roots, I'm trying to find time to learn Serbo-Croatian. I've kind of missed out on a lot culturally in my youth due to the fact that I could never really relate to my Serb-American friends--or at least I feel that way. So, can anyone help me find a fast (preferably cheap) way to learn Serbo-Croatian? I tried self-help books, but they take a lot of time to read and do those little written activities--and that's time I just don't have this school year. Please help? Any Serbs out there or lingual people have any advice?

Well... all we dream about that: to be able to speak a new language over night. But there is not such a thing. Learning a language is a matter of hard work. No shortcuts here! If the books you are using now are too slow for you, try to get Croatian friends on MSN and start chatting. Ask them to correct you when you are wrong. Okay... traveling there would be awesome! but... to be honest, everybody tells you that, as if it were a few blocks away.
