ok my friend just got done with his medical stuff for the military the other day for the navy and he had to take the asvab the same day which he failed twice before a now he has fail for his third time. Now he has to wait six months til he will be able to take it again he is thinking about joining the army because he heard from his cousin that they are letting people in with 20s, my friend had a 29 but he is only worried about having to be in infranty for getting in without meeting the requirements if he join and have to go over the he said he would just do what he has to do but he thinks maybe after bootcamp and that other training after that he could take the asvab again and get a good score to switch to a job and avoid getting sent over there,so what i am asking is can he do that, should he go to the army or wait the six months out for the navy and take the test then, and if he do go when is the most likely time he would be deployed over? answers from ppl in the army now will help

ok first of all, no once he is in he won't be taking the ASVAB again.
2. If he is scoring in the 20's he is gonna have alot of limitations on his career of choice in the military. If he doesn't wanna be in the infantry then the last thing he should do is to choose the infantry just to get into the military hoping to swithch later.. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN! Reclassing MOS's once your in the military is rather hard. You have to be approved by your CO and a slot in school must be open for you.. and a slot in a unit too. Just do not do this!
3. IF HE DOESN'T WANT TO GO OVERSEES TO WAR THEN DON'T BE IN THE MILITARY. FLAT OUT IT'S THAT SIMPLE. HE WILL HAVE ABSOLUTLY NO CHOICE AS TO WHERE HE WILL BE DEPLOYED.
4. Tell him to wait 6 months and take the ASVAB again. Going in with that kind of score is absolutly awful. Personally I have never met anyone who has scored below a 50. For the record I was in the Army for 6 years and scored a 98 on my asvab. Just tell him to keep taking it if that's what he really wants. I would suggest that he practices and studys for it beforehand. He knows what to expect now and he should be able to do better than a 29.

there is nothing wrong with being infintry. those guys are the backbone of our military. there isn't a job that your friend could do with out the possiblitly of being deployed, sorry hate to break it to you. the only reason that your friend wouldn't deploy with any branch is b/c of physical or mental problems or if he's that high of rank (which he won't be). and if he can't score good enough on the asvab then he really doesn't need to be doing a job that requires that much thinking to be honest. if i were your friend i would join the army, b/c when you deploy with the navy you get stuck on a boat for at least nine months, where at least with the army you can stretch when you get deployed.

First of all, being in the infantry is a priviledge and those who are picked for infantry are the creap of the crop. Second, if this person does not want to fight in a war then they should not be joining the Army or the Navy. We need warriors, not cowardly freeloaders.

He won't be able to switch his MOS. He will be offered a list of jobs to choose from, and then sign a contract for that job. He'll know what job he is going to be doing before he ever gets on the bus, and that is the job he will be doing.

Sounds like he's a dumbass slacker who will probably be kicked out before he ever finishes training, anyway.

Ok, first he either needs to get over a 31 or wait until a CAT IV slot opens up due to his low score.

Once he is in, he will have to take BSEP courses to raise his scores.
