everyone at school has a cellphone and there always checking it and there always getting phone calls and i feel like a loser not having one since i have no friends and cant afford a cell phone anyway

No you're not. Simply because it's not a neccesity since you have other ways to connect with your friends. I had the same issue back in my school days, but it was about pager, then. Ended up never had one, and when I look back, it's more of an unecessary expenses which you could have saved the cash for other things you want more.
Being cool is not about fancy handphones. It's about being yourself and setting examples for your friends.

Oh please, having a cell phone doesn't mean anything. When you think of the practicality of it....there really is no need at all- considering that almost all places have payphones in case of emergency. During the cellphone craze at our school, my parents got me a cellphone and I must say that there are much better things that you can do with $200-$300 (+plus the cost of the monthly plan)....I hardly even use it anymore it can be a reeeal distraction. And no, you are not pathetic, you will find friends, I'm sure of it...it's better to find a good friend who matches your values and personality as best as possible then to hang out with the wrong crowd or people who you feel aren't right for you. There are so many fish in the sea, I'm sure you will find someone you can relate to. Don't ever compromise yourself for anyone else- you are a unique individual and I sincerely hope that everything will work out well for you!!! Cheers!

Wherever I go I am bothered my the continual cell phone ringing. Went to the movies, I turned mine off, but twice during the movie they went off and the dumb people started talking. My parents gave me no money when I was in school so I went out and got a job and then even my mother took what she could find from me so go out and find some work. Regarding no friends,m school is the hardest place in the world Kids are MEAN you can have friends, smile and see who smiles back. It doesn't have to be the captain of the football team or the head cheerleader, but there is someone there who will want to be your friend. Good luck and God be with you

Not having a cell phone leaves you free to live you life as you see fit. You don't have to constantly check in with others to see if you can do something. If you want to do it, you can make the decision all on your own.
I don't think there is any good reason for a highschooler to have a cellphone. And if your at college, it gives you more opportunities to meet people.

you do not need a cellphone to make you someone and you should not feel like a loser cause without the phone you have more time for your work and when the others are struggling for the grade you will have the grade cause you had time to study instead of worrying with that phone

NO: Not having a cell phone doesn't make you pathetic. Being pitiful, or inadequate, or having a pathology makes one pathetic.
Not having a cell phone may even make you the "healthiest" of the bunch. Consider the possibility that those who are interrupting their lives and their learning experiences by cell phones, are the pathetic ones.

Nope. Having a cell phone does not make a person cool. If you want to be cool... there are others ways to be cool. If you're good at a certain subject in school, try to achieve in it for example.

having a cell phone does not make a person cool. cell phones are really annoying anyway, lol. don't worry about it. cell phones weren't always around..twenty years ago people weren't walking around with cell phones glued to their ears. and they survived..so will you..

You can get a brick-like mobile phone cheap these days. There really is no excuse. Then again how do you know all of these people are checking their phones and nobody is texting or ringing them?
