Why aren't the Israelis known as Israelites anymore?

Well I don't know if they are, but why don't we refer to Israelis as Israelites anymore?

Israelites is the biblical name whereas Israelis is the modern name. It's the same as most Hebrew names, there is a different way of saying them too. Everything changes with time, and this is an example of it. Some people do however still call them Israelites :)
