I have a portable external harddrive with a firewire port. Can I transfer my miniDV footage directly from my camcorder to the harddrive?

I want to transfer footage to the harddrive when I'm on the road and do not have my PC.

You need a program that lets you do that and edit your video. I use pinnacle 9 but I think there up to pinnacle 10 now,its a great program and lets you do lots of stuff with your video.

You cannot download, you have to capture on real time with the proper program.

no...you cant put anything on a external hard-drive without using a computer.
