Black And White Deer

Yes, deer see in black and white. I've hunted deer (successfully) in bright red, insulated coveralls. As long as I made no abrupt movements deer didn't seem to notice me. One doe stared at me and sniffed the air for about ten seconds before going back to feeding.

This led me to conclude that camo is a 'fashion' thing with hunters. I have never used it myself, however, another hunter assures me that both turkey and pigs can discern color, which is why he uses camo. Deer and turkey season are concurrent in our part of the state and feral hog hunting is year round.

As an afterthought... Solid colors such as solid black and solid white will grab a deer's attention as these are unusual in nature.

Deer have rods much like the rods in human eyes. Rods are used for clarity and in low light conditions. Have you ever noticed on moonlight nights how colors are diminished? It is because the rods are doing all the work. Bright light also "bleaches" out the rods making them not function as well until they are recharged. That's why you get blinded by oncoming cars at night. Cones are used for color vision, humans also have cones, deer don't have any cones that I am aware of. One thing deer do have is a mirror behind the retina, so the light goes through the rod, hits the mirror, and goes back through the rod again. So the optic nerve gets a double shot of the same light, this is what gives them excellent night vision. The mirror reflection is what you see shining when the headlights shine in their eyes. (More than you prolly wanted to know!!!)

i've got never considered a black subsidized deer yet I did see a whitetail in northern Maine that become white and brown. It appeared style of like a paint pony with enormous patches of different colorings. It become working in a team of roughly 6 or 8 different deer. yet another unusal ingredient approximately that paticular team become one in all them in undemanding terms had 3 legs! one in all her back legs become long gone at concerning to the knee. in undemanding terms observed it as a results of extraordinary hopping style of gait it gave her as she ran. She saved suitable up with the others although.

they see in black, white, but mostly shades of grey. they see minor color but like i said, mostly gray. dont worry too much about the color of clothing but rather the pattern it has. try to match the surroundings and the only color proven that deer can see reallly good, is the color blue. reason is that it reflects uv rays the most, that is why they can see at night. hope this helps
