He has been diagnosed with reactive airway disease. W've taken him to the Doctor a few times and they prescribed him a few medicines Well tonight, he has shallow breathing and a 102 fever.. should we take him to the ER or wait until the morning to see how everything goes?

My son was diagnosed with repetitive chronic bronchitis when he was a baby (he is now 7 years old). He had shallow breathing all the time due to this, and they recommended I get a Nebulizer and give him daily treatments. The medicine is albuterol which opens up the airway. You might want to ask a doctor about one. It might help.
Also, for the fever...give him/her the dosage (for his weight & age) of tylenol and motrin. For example: a dose of tylenol was given at 9:00 pm, then give him a dose of motrin at 11:00 pm. Then at 1:00 am. if the fever is still persistent, give him a dose of tylenol again. This is a normal procedure for when immunizations are given.
As far as taking him to the ER? Its completely up to you as a parent. If you don't feel comfortable with your child breathing shallow like that at night while noone is able to watch him/her sleep, I would go ahead and take him/her in.

Yes, take him to the ER. A 102 fever doesn't justify it, but with shallow breathing he should go to the ER NOW!!! He'll probably be fine, though. But he might need some treatment or something. Just take him in. Better to do it now than at 3 am if he gets worse.

Take him to the ER....shallow breathing can be very scary. I also think the ER can be a good way to get a second opinion.

Take him to the ER, it could be RSV (it can affect children as old as 2) If you have a Chuldrens Hospital nearby by all means take hin there
He will prob. need a breathing (albuteral) treatment
