Well, it could be from a high intensity laser beam as that would cauterize the skin and there would be no blood. It could be a small hole that was caused by a bee sting that he could have been allergic to. It could have been a microscopic piece of a meteorite that hit him at such a high speed that the heat of the fragment caused the skin to be cauterized. It could have been from a vampire that only had one fang and he sucked all the blood out of the body.
