If you die and find out what happens then you could no longer throw out the Agnostic word. You would be cognizent of thought beyond the grave which would show religion to have been true all along by default. If religion is wrong, you will simply cease to be, end of story.

To find out what happens after an individual dies you'd have to ask someone who knows the answer with absolute certainty and is still able to tell to. That would be God and Jesus Christ His Son. So therefore you'd have to read the Bible for your answer. As for reincarnation, it's another lie of Satan. "It is destined a man once to die, after that comes judgement"

The sweet irony of this question is that you have to be dead to find out.

If you don't believe in an afterlife of any kind and you are RIGHT, then whoopee, yer right and you get to be "aware" in a hole in the ground for who knows how long.

If you don't believe in an afterlife of any kind and you are WRONG, then whoops. You get to be "aware" in a whole new kind of existence.

But yer still dead to the living, unless you somehow come back to life, but then no one believes you anyways and they rake you over the coals in Yahoo Answers.

Bummer. Catch-22 if I've ever seen one.

Your question kinda defines FAITH though.

I think we may have this answer eventually. I believe that one day neural network technology will be advanced enough to simulate a human brain, then we can see what happens to it when its "dies" and have an answer. However I don't think this will end religion, as there will always be questions regarding the purpose of life that science can never answer.

When you are dead, religion for you comes to an end. That result for you will not affect what happens in the land of the living. Religion will continue to exist as long as humans are around.

I don't think so.

The brain we can scan & dissect, but consciousness continues to elude. Perhaps it is a failure of my own imagination, Red. Even if there were good scientific data, lots of people would reject it because it would not fit in with what they already thought. The problem of "intelligent design" is a current example. Other people would feed this tendency because their revenue stream had something to do with people thinking the old way.

So, off the top of my head, I just don't see it.

Religion (amoungst mankind) will never cease! It is our only link to salvation, to an eternity!

We (man/woman kind) need something, someone to believe in.

Desolving this/that negates religion!

What happens to us when we pass will always be a mystery, or a faith! We only believe by faith alone!

Until we (ourselves) pass, each shall not know the future or the 'unknown'!

Religion (or the lack thereof) will always be a part of our lives!

We shall know all in the presence of God!

Hope this helps,

God has already given us plenty of hints about what happens when we die. It's just a matter of getting a clue. I believe all religions will become obsolete only after the return of Jesus. Thank you and God Bless.

The Bible declares that the dead are "conscious of nothing at all." At death there is no torment in hellfire, no agonizing wait in Limbo, but simply a return to the dust. Therefore, God's Word advises the living: "All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol, the place to which you are going." (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10; Genesis 3:19) "Sheol" is an unfamiliar term to many. It is a Hebrew word of uncertain derivation. Many religions teach that the dead are still alive, but as the inspired Word of God shows, those in Sheol are dead, without consciousness. Sheol is the common grave of mankind.

5 In the Bible, we find the first occurrence of the word "Sheol" at Genesis 37:35. Following the apparent loss of his beloved son Joseph, the patriarch Jacob refused to take comfort, declaring: "I shall go down mourning to my son into Sheol!" Believing that his son was dead, Jacob desired to die and be in Sheol. Later, nine of Jacob's older children wanted to take his youngest son, Benjamin, down to Egypt to find relief from the famine. However, Jacob refused, saying: "My son will not go down with you men, because his brother is dead and he has been left by himself. If a fatal accident should befall him on the way on which you would go, then you would certainly bring down my gray hairs with grief to Sheol." (Genesis 42:36, 38) These two references link death, not some kind of afterlife, with Sheol.

6 The Genesis account reveals that Joseph had become the food administrator in Egypt. Consequently, Jacob was able to journey there for a joyous reunion with Joseph. After that, Jacob resided in that land until his death at the very advanced age of 147. According to his dying wishes, his sons took his remains and buried them in the cave of Machpelah in the land of Canaan. (Genesis 47:28; 49:29-31; 50:12, 13) Thus, Jacob joined Isaac, his father, and Abraham, his grandfather.
