I think some of you have some very good points and I do tend to shy away from organized religion. But I also have to think "what if"
"What if" God does exsist? I question everything. My main beef is those who tend to go to far and show disrespect and hatred. There is no need, in fact it is useless to do so if you are trying make a point because no one will listen to you.

I am very respectful toward people who are Believers.

Everyone in my family believes in God, but even if they didn't I would still be respectful.

I've come to being an atheist after years of searching and trying to believe but not being able to convince myself....so this did not just happen over night.

Please do not paint us with the same brush. All atheists are not the same nor to we want to be.

If God exists, he is irrelevant. No God could exist that intervenes in nature because the very venture of scientific inquiry would then prove meaningless. The universe's laws become unknowable if at any moment God steps in to monkey with them.

But the fact is that the universe is showing itself to be knowable. Scientific observations and experiments have led to theories that predict outcomes accurately. The advancements in science and medicine show that by careful study, we can increase our information and integrate it ever more fully into technology.

If God were changing the laws of nature to occasionally cure an individual's cancer, redirect a hurricane, or bring a lost kitten back home, then the efforts of science would fail to show fruit. And in reality, the successes of those advances far exceed the much sought interventions of God.

Therefore, the question of God's existence has no bearing on human life other than the impact of the question itself. And that impact on the both those who ask it and those who answer, holds entirely too much influence. If only the question were just as irrelevant to society as God himself is!

You have to earn respect. Some of the things ive seen posted on here by christians leave alot to be desired.
Threats, foul language, constant preaching, and forcing of religion.

Take a look at some postings of so called christians before you condemn other people.

The reason to treat Christians badly is that their religion has as it's end and eagerly anticipated goal, THE DESTRUCTION OF THE WORLD. There are some of us who feel that it is necessary to keep in their face so that some zealous bunch of them doesn't get it into their head to use modern technology to actually try to accomplish that particular nefarious (and stupid) act.

Disrespect should not be shown against the religion, only the members of it who are obviously brainwashed, can't think for themselves, and spout the rubbish that they are taught in bible study.

These people tend to be young and naive. They need to wake up and that is what many of us here try to do.

I don't blame some of the people that call themselves atheists, when they see the image the world presents of God.
I am a realist but I still believe in God.

God does not care if you participate in organized religion. But the past few thousand years has done nothing but show the existance of God. The Bible... His inspired word has withstood all criticism and scrutinizing. If God does exist... and He judges us all one day... your sins will condemn you to hell unless you've accepted, by faith, that Jesus died for your sins so that you can stand before God and be judged sinless. His grace will then bestow on you what you don't deserve... eternal life with Him. Not hell. If you die without knowing Jesus as your Lord and Savior you will perish in hell. Its simple.... black or white, life or death, sheep or goat, heaven or hell. God doesn't want any to perish... so choose Him today.

this is true but i also think the 'what if' stance is an interesting way of covering your options. there's a burden in science to prove something before it's accepted, but it doesn't seem to be that way with god. there is faith, and i respect that, and there are truly religious good people, and i respect them, but there are also those who bury their entire life in religion, god, heaven but aren't really 'here.' many of them don't particularly like real flesh and blood humans, only god and his angels. seriously, don't you think religion has the burden of proof?
