Pet stores are the WORST places to buy puppies - you will pay TOO MUCH for a LOW QUALITY pup...
think of this:
1 why would a good breeder with a nice facility need to HIDE anonymously behind a pet store?
2 pet stores are in the business for making profit... they buy pups for cheap and mark them up 300% or more..
3 what reputable breeder would EVER sell to a pet store? wouldnt they rather meet and screen and educate a new owner themself?
4 you cant see the parents when at a pet store... ever wonder why?

and more...

point is pet stores will tell you the pups are not from a puppy mill.. but logically where else would they be from?? not a reputable breeder - for sure

ok ya so a Breeder is the BEST.. or a rescue.. there are yorkie rescues

buy your yorkshire terrier from a breeder by all means. I have read that pet shops are awful. they don't really know the personality of the dog for the background. (Who the parents are and such). A good breeder will always be there for you with answers to important questions. Also he or she will know absolutely everything about the dog you choose. Breeders often know exactly who the parents are, as well. good luck

The best things is to contact your local Yorkie rescue. There are many great quality animals looking to be placed. If you really want a puppy then definitely look for a breeder. NOT a pet store. Even the ones that say they don't buy from puppy mills, they do.

You want a breeder that will want to know more about you than you do about them. You want to see at least the mother if not both parents. Ask to see where the breeding dogs are kept.
Ask about medical history for the last 3 generations and see if the breeding pair has been tested for any particular problems that are prone to this breed.

BREEDERS! puppy shops get alot (not all) from puppy mills, they will not be able to tell you anything about the parents are anything. So many people i know got puppies from a pet store and what was suppose to be a 8 lb dog turned into a 15 lb dog. Sometimes you might get lucky and find a dog with out health problems and be the best pet, in pet store, but more than likely it will cost you more in the long run of vet bills.

Try your local animal shelter and pet stores first, there are poor defensless puppies out there that were left on the street because there parents owners didn't spay or neuter there pets. After that try breeders that aren't that perfect because they usually dump there pets on the streets as well. Just make sure that there is no problems with the pups parents because then the pups may get dieseses. Then go to the breeder, breeders have high priced pedigree dogs that other people will buy, if that helps at all good.

Definitely a breeder. Preferably a breeder that has the parents on site and has a proven breeding program.

If you buy a puppy from a pet shop you are taking the chance it came from a puppy mill.

Also, if you buy from a breeder you have a resource should you have a problem.

Pet shops buy from puppy mills and the puppies have a world of issues from tempermants to medical. Definitely better to go with a breeder, but you have to find a reputable one, not just any backyard breeder. As stated above, they can be as bad as a puppy mill. You'll pay more for a reputable breeders pups, but you will not have the issues and it will be worth the investment.

First check with local shelters and rescues to see if there are any yorkshire terriers that need saving. If not, I'd go directly to a reputable breeder and check out their facility. Pet shops sometimes get animals from puppy mills and you definitely don't want to support that practice.

Never a Pet shope - never never never. You are only promoting puppy mills.

Breeder - it depends only if you can find a GOOD reputable one. This goes for any breed. Take your time and find a good one. They will have done testing on the parents. Not just the standard "healt certificate". If you do your research- you'll find what types of genetic problems the yorkies are prone to and what type of testing should be done on the parents. A good breeder will usually ask you more questions that you ask her, she will most likely make you sign a contract with possible spay/neuter clause. And she will stand by her breeding, and agree to take back any puppies if you can not longer care for it.
Try the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America

From a breeder. If you buy from a breeder you can see the parents of the dog if you wish. From the pet store you would have to take there word.
